In a remarkable display of intellectual and athletic balance, the Eagles have recently secured a "triple crown" of academic honors, earning significant recognition from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the Mid-American Conference, and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
A regional powerhouse: The CSC Academic All-District Honors
The depth of the Eagles' academic talent was clearly on display with the announcement of the CSC Academic All-District honors. A total of 12 student-athletes from the track and field program were named to this prestigious list. The CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must maintain a high cumulative grade point average (typically a 3.50 or higher) while also being a key contributor to their team's athletic success. Earning 12 such honors in a single cycle is a testament to the program's ability to recruit and develop individuals who view their education with the same intensity as their training. These 12 individuals represent the vanguard of the program, serving as role models for their teammates and the broader university community.
Earning the honor for the men's team are: Cason Doolittle, Michael Hawkins, Leo Ignacio , Jake McEachern, Olawole Olanrewaju, and Gabe Oliveira and for the women, Natalie Buratczuk, Sophie Emin, Aleah Johnson, Lena Korte, Saraiah Walkes, and Mariia Yelanska garnered the award.
Conference Dominance: The Academic All-MAC List
While regional honors highlight elite individuals, conference-level awards often reflect the overall health and culture of a program. In this regard, the Eagles have set a staggering benchmark. Eastern Michigan recently landed 29 student-athletes on the Outdoor Academic All-MAC list.
The Mid-American Conference requires a rigorous set of standards for this distinction, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and participation in at least 50 percent of the season's contests. For a single program to place nearly 30 individuals on this list is a clear indicator that academic success is not the exception at EMU, it is the standard. This volume of honorees speaks to a coaching staff and support system that prioritizes time management, study habits, and the long-term career goals of their athletes. It reinforces the idea that at Eastern Michigan, being a "student" comes before being an "athlete" in more than just name.
The men's honorees are Ronan Codyre, Mill Coleman III, Cason Doolittle, Nathan Gaspersic , Jimmy Geller, Leland Godfrey, Michael Hawkins, Leo Ignacio, Samuel Jeffery, Nicholas Kline, Carson McCoy, Jake McEachern, Olawole Olanrewaju, Sam Peterson, Carson Vanderschaaf, and Kian Wiles.
On the women's side, Alimot Alowonle, Ajah Arscott, Mia Biehl, Natalie Buratczuk, Sophie Emin, Aleah Johnson, Lucy Jones, Nicolette Lewis, Frankie Moore, Megan Rybitski, Saraiah Walkes, Cara Weber, and Mariia Yelanska made the list.
National Recognition: USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
The pinnacle of academic recognition in the sport comes from the USTFCCCA, which evaluates programs on a national scale. The Eastern Michigan track and field programs have once again distinguished themselves by earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. These awards are unique because they recognize both individual brilliance and collective team effort.
For a team to be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the entire roster must maintain a cumulative GPA above 3.0. This requires every member of the squad, from the walk-ons to the All-Americans, to pull their weight in the classroom. Earning this honor signifies that the Eagles are among the most intellectually elite programs in the country, competing at the highest level of Division I athletics while maintaining a culture of scholarly achievement. Furthermore, individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors are reserved for those who reach the highest tiers of athletic competition (such as qualifying for the NCAA Championships) while maintaining a GPA of at least 3.25.
Individual honors for the men went to Ray Glory-Ejoyokah, Jake McEachern, Gabe Oliveira, and Kian Wiles. All four of the men qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships East First Round in their respective events. On the women's side Saraiah Walkes and Uduak Udosoh earned the honor.
