EMU's clean sheet against Michigan State marked only the fourth time in 50 historical matches against MAC opponents that the Spartans have been held scoreless in East Lansing, with the last occurrence dating all the way back to 2005. Even more impressively, Eastern Michigan’s resilient defensive stand represents the first known shutout by a mid-major program on the road against a top-three nationally ranked team since September 18, 2016. Following that legendary performance, the EMU duo traveled to Robert Morris University, where they fought to another gritty 0-0 draw on August 30, further cementing their defensive dominance.
