Mind the sign: reserved spots require premium pass

Since Eastern Michigan University repurchased parking on campus, visitors may have noticed parking spots newly labeled as "reserved."

EMU Police Chief Matthew Lige spoke to The Echo about this new parking option.

"Parking in the reserved spot is only for the staff or student that purchased that spot," Lige wrote in a statement. "Any unauthorized vehicle in a reserved spot could be ticketed."

These parking spots were developed based off student input, he wrote. The reserved spots are for staff and students. All reserved spots are closer to academic buildings than other parking locations on campus, making trips to and from classes quicker and allowing drivers to have a spot guaranteed.

Reserved spots cost $400 a semester. This is a premium rate compared to student parking passes, which range from $151 to $225.

The Eagle Parking website has the reserved parking permits listed as being available for in-person purchase only. Students and staff can visit the EMU Department of Public Safety to purchase a reserved parking spot and to learn more information.
