One night only: A conversation with Jewish foodways expert, Nora Rubel! — Oct. 6
At Zingerman's Roadhouse, in collaboration with the Eastern Michigan University Center for Jewish Studies, author and historian Nora Rubel will discuss her new book. Rubel is coming to Ann Arbor from Rochester to be interviewed by Zingerman's co-founder Ari Weinzweig about her new book "Recipes for the Melting Pot: The Lives of The Settlement Cook Book," the Zingerman's webpage states.
In "Recipes for the Melting Pot," Rubel explores the people, history and enduring legacy of "The Settlement Cook Book," which was published in 1901 by Jewish women. The cookbook offered a window into immigration, assimilation, Jewish identity, women's lives and the changing of American food, the event website said. Those who attend will hear Rubel and Weinzweig explore the intersection of food, culture, immigration and identity. There will be appetizers, including one exclusively crafted from Rubel’s book.
Zingerman's Roadhouse is at 2501 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor. The event is at 6 p.m., and tickets are $45 for each individual. Tickets can be found on Zingerman's website on the event's webpage.
