Ypsilanti to host public data center ordinance meetings Oct. 7, Oct. 15

During the month of October, the City of Ypsilanti will be hosting two public community meetings regarding a proposed ordinance to change the zoning law for data centers within city limits.

The first meeting will take place Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ypsilanti City Hall, Council Chambers, 1 S. Huron St.

The second meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 15, starting at 10 a.m., and taking place on Zoom. The Zoom link and meeting passcode can be accessed through the City of Ypsilanti webpage.

These meetings will allow the citizens of Ypsilanti to learn more information about the new ordinance. Those who attend these meetings will also be given the opportunity to comment and ask questions.

The proposed ordinance has been a topic of conversation at recent Ypsilanti City Council meetings. At the Sept. 15, 2026, meeting, City Planner Josh Burns gave a slideshow presentation explaining the proposed ordinance. Among other changes, the ordinance would classify data centers into three categories, installing certain energy and water consumption requirements for non-accessory centers.
