Drew Saunders, journalism major at Eastern Michigan University, has written and published his very own novel, Hasan. Hasan is a fictional story of a 15-year-old boy braving the difficulties of the Middle East’s Civil War by himself and whilst caring for his younger siblings. The story illustrates Hasan’s journey of trying to leave the war-corrupted country in his horizons.

Protesters marched into Eastern Michigan University's regular Board of Regents meeting Tuesday with intent to present the Black Student 10-Point Plan to the regents. Community members also spoke at the open communication session to express strong opposition to EMU's continued affiliation with the Education Achievement Authority.

I am responding to the “Crass rant” in the comics section of the Echo. The author claims that there are too many babies. This overpopulation myth has caused human rights abuses around the world, forced population control, denied medicines to the poor, and targeted attacks on ethnic minorities and women. Protesters of the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan voiced their oppositions at the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents meeting Tuesday afternoon. These protestors, mostly members of Students for and Ethical and Participatory Education and the coalition of people against the EAA, filed into Welch 201 just before the meeting began with duct taped mouths. For years, Pam Olech has been one of Eastern Michigan University’s many full-time lecturers in charge of observing and advising student teachers. But her position has been threatened due recent layoffs within the EMU College of Education.

At the Sept. 20 Board of Regents meeting, Eastern Michigan University’s Chief Financial Officer John Lumm reported that the university was suffering from a $4.6 million deficit and recently, he sat down with The Eastern Echo to provide further insight into EMU’s budget.
