On Monday, Nov. 18, Black Leaders Aspiring for Critical Knowledge held an event called “Family Feud: EMU Edition” in the Student Center Auditorium. Inspired by the original TV game show hosted by comedian Steve Harvey, B.L.A.C.K. invited a variety of different clubs and organizations to get involved in the festivities as part of B.L.A.C.K. Week.

On Friday, the Quirk-Sponberg Theater grew still as 7 p.m. drew near. The soft sound of children shushing was heard around the theater, bouncing off exposed brick walls as the lights dimmed. Children and parents sat in anticipation to see the world of author C.S. Lewis’ “Narnia” come to life as the Eastern Michigan University Theatre for the Young presented its production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

The problem I have with most pubs or bars is that I can either get great food or great beer, but never both. The Wurst Bar, 705 W Cross St., has solved that problem for me with a variety of menu options and a fantastic beer list. It ranks high on my list of local bars.

The coming of winter brings cozy sweaters, fun in the snow and the risk of dry, chapped, flaking skin that’s so damaged it seems as if it will never return to normal again. As a person who struggles with both eczema and sensitivity, I’ve learned it doesn’t take dermatologist treatments to cure winter skin problems – just a bit of prevention, the right products and even some do-it-yourself remedies.

Besides our neighbors south of the border, Italians may have the best food anywhere in the world.
Whenever I eat Italian food, I become akin to a hungry child who can’t wait to sit down and chow down. Italians seem to have innate cooking skills, and a good cook is flexible with ingredients.
Recently, my travels led me to Argiero’s Italian Restaurant in Ann Arbor.

After 12 years in Afghanistan, the longest war in American history, Veterans Day has come to hold a little more weight than before. As Americans remembered the fallen and the ones who have fought to keep our own fall at bay, the Ypsilanti Community Choir did their part to remember by teaming up with the Saline New Horns Band for a veterans’ tribute concert on November 10.
