Everyone needs to save money when attending college, whether you’re a freshman in a dorm for the first time or a college commuter returning for a degree. College can add extra expenses that require students to manage a tight budget, and saving money on the basics is essential. Most people know or have seen on TV at least one person who seems to have cracked the code for saving tons every time he or she steps into a grocery or retail store. In extreme cases, some savvy shoppers can even reduce their grocery bills from hundreds of dollars to as little as $9.99.

For years, African-American women have strayed from their natural “roots” for relaxers (chemical straighteners) to have that manageable, European look that has been revered. In another instance this revered look has also sparked judgment towards other women who haven’t followed the perm movement. The overwhelming criticism that 2012 Olympics gymnast Gabby Douglas experienced made those outside the African-American community raised their eyebrows to such an intense vanity.

Because of less time, part two of my Summer Music Guide has fewer albums. In part one, I reviewed 25 albums. This time, I’ve shortened that number down to 10. I’ve also focused more on albums I actually enjoy, with eight of the albums gaining a B PLUS or higher. Still, I think I made up for the lack of pans with a review of my absolute least favorite album of the year, The Haxan Cloak’s “Excavation.”

“The freshman 15” is a phrase that can elicit horror among college students everywhere. It refers to the weight that some college freshmen gain as a result of partying, overeating and making unhealthy food choices in the school cafeteria.

Even though the Echo stops running from the end of June until the end of summer, I’ve been hard at work, listening to music, studying other reviews and writing. Part of the pleasure of music to me is writing about it. So I figured, rather than post online material throughout the summer, I could just put my opinions on all the music I’ve been listening to this summer into a couple very long articles. Part two will come at the beginning of the school year.

As of right now, I have heard 100 albums in 2013. Even then, there’s still plenty of music I haven’t gotten to, including the new James Blake album, a new LP from Serengeti and several recent singles.

How many of you still have to go to the Academic Advising Center? A lot of students do. Part of the reason most don’t go is that nobody wants to make that long trek across campus to Pierce or McKenny Hall. Realizing this, Francine Parker, chair of the Board of Regents, decided to create an Academic Advising Center in a more convenient and accessible location for students. So when a space opened in the Student Center, she and the rest of the Board of Regents jumped at the chance to put it there.

Like the one man trinity known as Superman/Clark Kent/Kal-El, producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder have a difficult time maintaining a consistent cinematic identity with their “Man of Steel.” “Steel” is an origin story that tells how Kal-El was born, shows how Clark was raised by foster parents in Kansas, and finally how Superman came to be.

Imagine a United States of America without crime. Imagine our country with an employment percentage higher than Steve Nash’s career free throw percentage (90.42 percent as of today). Now imagine working in customer service and knowing that for one day out of the year, you could legally murder every cheap, ignorant idiot that stiffs you out of a tip on a $200 bill. The key to this utopian United States with rock bottom crime rates and sky high employment rates is that for one day out of the year any and all crime is legal. You can murder, steal, loiter or even solicit next to “no-soliciting” signs.
