The Eastern Michigan University chapter of the American Association of University Professors voted overwhelmingly to approve a new three-year contract by a margin of 288-7, or 98 percent in consent.

Tristan Karez Simmons, an 18-year-old Inkster resident, was arraigned June 6 on charges, of the false report or threat of a bomb or harmful device, for a bomb threat to Eastern Michigan University’s Convocation Center. The previous day, a secretary at Ypsilanti High School had received two separate phone calls from the same person who said a bomb was going to go off at the Convocation Center at 7 p.m. that night.
A group of Eastern Michigan University faculty and staff gathered outside Ford Hall June 5, to rally in support of the team negotiating new faculty contracts. Several speakers explained some issues being negotiated, followed by a march around Ford Hall, carrying signs and shouting “Fair contracts.”

The annual Taste of Ann Arbor event brought out food lovers on Sunday to sample the best Ann Arbor restaurants had to offer. Despite high winds, crowds packed into the Main Street area to enjoy food, local vendors and live music.
Eastern Michigan University recently announced the appointment of Michael Tidwell as the new dean of the College of Business. Tidwell, currently serving as dean of the College of Business at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, brings both academic and personal experience he feels will prepare him for his position at EMU.
EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY – Student Government is now hiring for the 2012-13 school year. In order to be considered, an applicant must be an EMU student for the entire 2012-13 academic year, with good academic and judicial standing.

May 14 – A subject was driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol at 1:57 a.m. at Cross Street and Ballard Street.
Eastern Michigan University has suspended its relationship with GradesFirst, the company responsible for the mistaken dismissal emails sent to 7,787 students earlier this month.
On Saturday, May 19, about 120 Eastern Michigan University faculty, staff, students and their families, including university President Susan Martin, gathered at Washtenaw Community College for the annual Ann Arbor American Heart Association Heart Walk. This year’s EMU team raised more than $12,000 for heart and stroke research, according to the American Heart Association website.
LANSING- On April 2, a sample collected as part of routine retail animal feed surveillance by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Pesticide and Plant Pest Management division found Salmonella Infantis in a sample collected from an intact package of Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice Formula for Adult Dogs. The manufacturer voluntarily recalled this product on April 6. The recall has expanded and now includes 14 pet food brands manufactured from Dec. 9, 2011 – April 7, 2012.
YPSILANTI – Four skunks have tested positive for rabies so far in 2012. All of the identified skunks have been within the City of Ann Arbor. There are no known human cases of rabies. As an incentive for Eastern Michigan University employees to move to Ypsilanti, a new program called Live Ypsi will offer employees between $5,000 and $10,000 in forgivable loans toward the purchase of a home in the city. The money can be used for any expenses, including down payments, mortgages and renovations. Also, for every year the homeowner is still employed by EMU, 20 percent of the loan will be forgiven, so in five years the full amount of the loan will be wiped away.
