Troy recalls mayor for radical opinions

Janice Daniels, the mayor of Troy, Mich., was recalled Nov. 6 by a vote of 52 percent. The recall effort was centered around Daniels’ views on gay marriage and her opposition to a transit center.

DTE partners with 826michigan to help expand tutoring programs

DTE Energy has partnered up with the nonprofit organization 826michigan to help them expand their tutoring programs in Michigan schools. DTE helped the organization expand to Ypsilanti Middle School and recently gave 826Michigan a $100,000 grant to make another tutoring center in Detroit.

Board approves support of 3 charter schools

The Eastern Michigan University Educational Policy Committee discussed a proposal sponsoring three charter schools in the Detroit and Ypsilanti areas, which the Board of Regents approved at their Oct.

In the Monday, Oct. 29 issue of The Eastern Echo, the photo in the article “Affordable Care Act teach-in informs Ypsi” was incorrectly captioned. The subject of the photo is Robert Casalou, president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Saline and Livingston, not Kirk Roy, vice president of National Health Reform for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Obama leads in polls by 0.1 percent

The Real Clear Politics statistics showed nationwide Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will receive 47.3 percent of votes and President Barack Obama will receive 47.4 percent of votes, giving Obama a 0.1 percent lead.

Ypsi ballot to have 2 more proposals

Ypsilanti residents will have two additional proposals on their November ballot, both dealing with consolidating the Willow Run Community Schools and Ypsilanti Public Schools.

President Barack Hussein Obama, 51, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father was from Kenya and his mother was from Kansas. Obama’s parents divorced when he was 2 years old, and he moved to Indonesia shortly after when his mother remarried.

Redistricting changes Washtenaw’s ballot

Washtenaw County will now be part of District 12 after its previous district (District 15) was eliminated as a result of the 2010 census. The 2010 census showed that Washtenaw County’s population increased by about 22,000 people, bringing the total county population to around 344,791 residents.

Community Forum to examine Affordable Care Act Eastern Michigan University will host the seminar “Everything You Need to Know About the Affordable Care Act: A Community Teach-In” Thursday, Oct. 25 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital’s Administration Area Auditorium at 5301 McAuley Drive in Ypsilanti.
