Eastern Michigan University’s Dancing with the Stars, the final event for the Wellness Center’s Mental Health Awareness Week, debuted Monday in the Student Center Ballroom with a turnout of over 250 attendees when only 50 were expected.

The National Day of Unplugging, March 1, is a day devoted to letting go of our technological dependency. Just for a day, you can leave your cellphone at home, turn off your computer and take a respite from the swirl of text messages and emails that we often let run our lives.

Delta Sigma Phi preps for Plunge

The weather prediction for Tuesday in Michigan is a low of 78 degrees, with a high of 88, mostly sunny and just a light breeze coming in from the north. Just kidding. It’s going to be freezing, and yet, members of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity are still going to jump into the lake outside Eastern Michigan University’s Big Bob’s Lake House. Yes folks, it’s the Polar Plunge ’13.

Spring break is finally here

Spring break is the time for adventure. Whether you’ve been planning that trip to Florida’s Clearwater Beach for months now or you’re throwing a dart at the map and going where destiny (and your lousy car) takes you, there are a few things you’ll undoubtedly need—some real friends, a camera to capture those unforgettable moments and of course, clothes.

EMU raises $700 for American Heart Association with event

The energy was stellar, the bass was bumping and Eastern Michigan University students were stepping the night away. Monday night’s Hustle Your Heart Out event in the Student Center was a success, with more than 500 people in attendance. Guests of various ages danced proudly in their hustle shirts and raised $700 for the American Heart Association.


	No. 2 ranked DJ Tiesto brings DJ Quintino and DJ Tommy Trash to the Convocation Center.

For electronic dance music fans all across Michigan, the anticipation to see Tiësto has been building since tickets went on sale last summer, but the wait is finally over. The famous Dutch DJ is coming to rock the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center next Wednesday.

Night of dance helps raise heart awareness

We’ve all done it at one point or another in our lives at your cousin’s weddings, your friend’s open houses and, of course, at your family reunions: Worked off all that food you’d destroyed in one sitting and when that beat pumped, ran like a maniac to the dance floor and hustled the house down. Breaking a good sweat and exclaiming in excitement, you were having a fun workout and didn’t even know it.

Looking for something to do? Here are a few on-campus activities to keep your week interesting. Join presenter Diane Brookins and Students for Life for the Black History Month event, Life of a People, Monday at 6 p.m. at Halle Library. The event is Learning Beyond the Classroom credit approved.

Flash Mob to back ending of violence

V-Day doesn’t just stand for Valentine’s Day anymore. For fifteen years now, Vagina Day has been celebrated to raise awareness about violence against woman. One in three women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, according to One Billion Rising’s website; the organization works for the prevention of violence against women.


	I am P.I.N.K. makes prom dresses available.

I am P.I.N.K. aids Detroit students

From now until March 31, Eastern Michigan University’s I am P.I.N.K. is playing fairy godmother by hosting a second annual prom dress drive, which provides donated dresses to Detroit high school students.

Tongue-in-cheek band Electric Six to play at Blind Pig

It’s Valentine’s Day, and you’ve probably seen enough images of topless cherubs and rootless flowers with three-day shelf lives to last a lifetime. Why not enjoy your Valentine’s Day this year by spending it with Electric Six at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor?

“One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. One billion women violated is an atrocity; one billion women dancing is a revolution,” reads the 1 Billion Rising website.


	EMU is celebrating its 1,005 international students Feb. 11-14.

International Week begins

Out of the more than seven billion people in the world spanning across roughly 196 countries, Eastern Michigan University has 1,005 international students from 81 countries. During the week of Feb. 11-14, EMU plans to acknowledge these students with their own event.

Storytellers talk about scars

It takes real courage to go on stage and tell a room full of strangers about painful moments from your past. The theme for the Eastern Michigan University Campus Life Storytellers Lounge last Thursday was scars, and even with such personal subject matter the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate.
