Flash Mob to back ending of violence

V-Day doesn’t just stand for Valentine’s Day anymore. For fifteen years now, Vagina Day has been celebrated to raise awareness about violence against woman. One in three women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, according to One Billion Rising’s website; the organization works for the prevention of violence against women.


	I am P.I.N.K. makes prom dresses available.

I am P.I.N.K. aids Detroit students

From now until March 31, Eastern Michigan University’s I am P.I.N.K. is playing fairy godmother by hosting a second annual prom dress drive, which provides donated dresses to Detroit high school students.

Tongue-in-cheek band Electric Six to play at Blind Pig

It’s Valentine’s Day, and you’ve probably seen enough images of topless cherubs and rootless flowers with three-day shelf lives to last a lifetime. Why not enjoy your Valentine’s Day this year by spending it with Electric Six at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor?

“One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. One billion women violated is an atrocity; one billion women dancing is a revolution,” reads the 1 Billion Rising website.

	EMU is celebrating its 1,005 international students Feb. 11-14.

International Week begins

Out of the more than seven billion people in the world spanning across roughly 196 countries, Eastern Michigan University has 1,005 international students from 81 countries. During the week of Feb. 11-14, EMU plans to acknowledge these students with their own event.

Storytellers talk about scars

It takes real courage to go on stage and tell a room full of strangers about painful moments from your past. The theme for the Eastern Michigan University Campus Life Storytellers Lounge last Thursday was scars, and even with such personal subject matter the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate.


Several performances were held last Sunday during the 2010 Chinese Week  kick off gala, held in the EMU student center ballroom. The event was hosted by Mei Hua Tong Xue Hui, or the American Chinese Students Association.

Women’s Resource Center to present ‘Vagina Monologues’ in Student Center

Nineteen years ago, Eve Ensler’s creation, “The Vagina Monologues,” started from a conversation with a close friend over womanly dilemmas. As the subject switched to vaginas, her friend’s unfavorable outlook on her lady parts was quite peculiar and made Ensler evaluate how she felt about her own. This revelation made her wonder how women thought of their vaginas, and their personal testimonies would channel a perspective on discussing womanhood and sexuality.

There is nothing more complicated in life than love. Relationships go through many different stages and everyone has different expectations and routines when it comes to dating.



Best Buddies program promotes inclusion

Everybody needs a friend (or two, or three). As a young adult with a disability, it can sometimes be difficult to make these special connections. Eastern Michigan University’s Best Buddies program aims to help build those much-needed, meaningful relationships.

Heart Month kicks off with wellness expo

Eastern Michigan University will kick off the American Heart Association’s National Heart Month with the Go Red Health and Wellness Expo from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Go Red VIP Luncheon from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the EMU Student Center Ballroom.

Eastern Michigan University’s student organization Amplifying the Arts is inviting artists to star in the school’s own reality show: “Clash of the Creators.”

The Eastern Michigan University Women’s Resource Center reminds us all that January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and although that may seem grim, a healthy dose of perspective can inspire true power for change by simply raising awareness.
