Matt on Music: Tegan and Sara's 'Heartthrob'

·

In 2009, I became a Tegan and Sara fan after being introduced to them through a friend. They stand alongside TV on the Radio and Vampire Weekend as one of the bands most responsible for my fascination with indie-rock after being exclusively classic rock-oriented for so many years.

Student releases gospel album

·

Spreading a message might be a bit of a far stretch for some people, but for Eastern Michigan University sophomore Lydia Seale it’s only a matter of time before the world hears her message.

Alum shows art in area

·

Success for an artist is all about getting your name out there, whether it’s by commissioning large art pieces or showing your art anywhere you can.

EMU shares ideas with TEDx

·

As a student, faculty member, alumni or a family member of someone at Eastern Michigan University, you bring a lot to the table. You have experiences, knowledge and lessons that you have to offer to teach other people. Likewise, other people have their own lessons to teach you. TEDxEMU is an opportunity to create an environment to share these lessons.

CMA has ‘Lively Luncheon’

·

Out of all the classes you have had here at Eastern Michigan University, it’s very likely you’ve shared a classroom with someone of a different culture or ethnicity.

Heart Month kicks off with wellness expo

·

‘Safe Haven’ enjoyable but unmoving

·

In high school, I ravaged any and every Nicholas Sparks novel I could lay my voracious hands on. My favorite was “The Notebook” until “The Choice” emerged as a serious contender. I was drawn to the flawed yet lovable characters, the almost believable real-life situations and the gamble of whether or not the ending would leave me grinning moronically at the undeniable existence of never-ending love or doubled over dry heaving because I couldn’t possibly squeeze out one more agonizing tear. As S.E. Hinton would say “that was then, this is now.”

Katie's Craft Corner: Zipped cases

·

There never seems to be enough space to put everything where you can find it—ever. Disappearing hair elastics when you’re headed to the gym, pencils before a math test or just a deck of cards when you’re hanging out with friends. The solution? Compact, zipped cases to corral all your easy-to-lose items.

Students develop unique clothing line

·

Often times before a big Eastern Michigan University game or event, we want to go show off our school spirit by buying some new gear, but many times it seems to be a little over priced or you see the same designs worn by people all over campus.

Program aims to show sexuality not concrete

·

Whether you view sex as a mutual act of love, a word you giggled at as a snotty-nosed child, or something you chase relentlessly as a college kid, there’s no debating who you choose to share it with is an important part of your identity—just ask any of the many Eastern Michigan University students who identify as LGBT. Can your sexuality be as fluid throughout your life as your taste in music or food?

‘You will be empowered to spread the word’

·

The Eastern Michigan University Women’s Resource Center reminds us all that January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and although that may seem grim, a healthy dose of perspective can inspire true power for change by simply raising awareness.

‘Shaking Earth’ shows, discussion this weekend

·

It’s that time of year again when Americans are reminded of how far this country has come in terms of facing adversity and restoring equality. Even with reminders like Martin Luther King Day, we often don’t realize how many hardships and struggles have been left out of our history books.

Speaker delivers ‘powerful speech’

·

Classic ‘Tom Sawyer’ still relevant today

·

Is classic literature relevant in today’s world? Yes. How are we to perceive the evolution of contemporary pieces if we are unable to accept, understand and appreciate their great-great-grandparents? Is classic literature relevant to a twenty-something college student in today’s world? Yes begets yes, begets yes.
