Buffalo Men’s Basketball Wins Fourth MAC Title in Five Years

The Buffalo Men’s Basketball team has won their fourth MAC Tournament championship in the last five years as Buffalo defeated Bowling Green in the title game, 87-73, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on March 16. Buffalo coach Nate Oats will be headed to their second straight NCAA Tournament after the win.

Eastern Michigan Men’s Basketball Season Recap

  Going into its eighth season under head coach, Rob Murphy, the Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team had high optimism for the 2018-19 season. However, the Eagles finished the season with a 15-17 overall record. The team finished third in the MAC West with a 9-9 conference record.

EMU Men’s Basketball Loses Final Regular Season Game

 Eastern Michigan fails to pick up a win in its final regular season game. After a strong start on defense, Toledo proceeded to pick apart EMU from the 3-point line enroute to a win. As a result, Eastern will play Ball State in the first round of the MAC Tournament against Ball State.

 Previewing the Eagles’ first-round game against Ball State on March 11 at the Convocation Center. Eastern Michigan and Ball State have already played twice this year and the Eagles have won both occasions. It has been 21 years since the Eagles last won the MAC Tournament.

EMU Men’s Basketball Beats Ball State on Senior Night

The EMU men’s basketball team earned their 15th victory of the season by defeating Ball State at the Convocation Center on Senior Night. The four seniors combined for 52 points in the 68-61 win. James Thompson IV led the way, scoring 20 points and grabbing 23 rebounds. He also broke the school’s 47-year-old career rebounding record. Paul Jackson and Elijah Minnie also contributed, combining for 30 points.

Paul Jackson had 19 points along with five assists and four steals for EMU (13-15, 7-8 MAC). James Thompson IV notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Elijah Minnie had 11, despite not being in the starting five like usual. Kevin McKay had the game-high in points at 23 and grabbed 10 rebounds for Central (20-8, 9-6). David DiLeo scored 18 and went 5-of-9 shooting from the 3-point range.

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team is fresh off a thrilling comeback victory over the University of Toledo, 76-69, after trailing by as much as 12 points in the second half. With just five games remaining in the regular season, the Eagles are gearing up for another MAC tournament run.

Ypsilanti High School faced Lincoln High School in girls and boys varsity basketball on Friday, Feb. 15 at the Convocation Center. The Ypsilanti girls won 42-26, while the Lincoln boys slipped away with a 67-66 victory. 


Thompson's monster day leads to EMU win

A dominant performance by James Thompson leads the Eastern Michigan Eagles over the Miami Redhawks, 74-57, in Oxford on Saturday. “James (Thompson) had one of the best performances that any one player has had during my time coaching tenure here,” said coach Rob Murphy.

Basketball: Spring Break Roundup

While Eastern Michigan University students took last week off, the men’s basketball team continued to work, but fell short by going 1-2 during the break. The Eagles began the mid-winter break with a 73-65 victory Feb. 21, on the road at Northern Illinois. Mike Talley scored a career high 25 points while Karrington Ward followed with 21 points. Both players also played all 40 minutes in the contest to help complete the season sweep over the Huskies.

EMU men's basketball team falls to Bulls

For only the second time this season, Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team lost at home, falling to the University of Buffalo 78-63. After shooting over 50 percent in the previous two games, EMU struggled only converting on 36 percent of its field goal attempts. “We never got anything going,” EMU coach Rob Murphy said.

Playing a stifling zone defense, Eastern Michigan Basketball upset the University of Michigan at the Crisler Center Tuesday night, winning 45-42. EMU coach Rob Murphy said it was not only a huge win for EMU basketball but the entire athletic department. The Wolverines had no answer for the Eagles swarming defense which invaded Michigan passing lanes and contested every shot UofM tried to put up.
