Two 18-year-old men have been arrested and charged with the murder of Trey Matthews III. The fatal shooting occurred on Jan. 11 in Ypsilanti Township at Nancy Park.

A new academic program for a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering was approved by the Board of Regents on Feb. 13. The program is “STEM-designated” and will emphasize structural engineering, transportation, water resources, environmental engineering, and construction engineering.
The EMU Board of Regents voted on Feb. 13 to phase out five programs in the Department of World Languages, and existing programs will focus more on K-12 education, as opposed to some programs specifically targeting high school or higher education teaching.
The Provost’s office has announced the first round of funding for various faculty projects as a part of the “Faculty First” initiative. 14 faculty members were given funding, totaling $47,950. This is the first donation of $2 million total that has been dedicated to faculty at EMU.

The Symphony Orchestra of EMU held their concert in Pease Auditorium on Friday, February 8th. The concert was sensory-friendly, providing various accommodations.
Ypsilanti’s parking is being updated with paid and time-limited parking as well as updated meters. These updates may be costly but according to Mayor Beth Bashert, revenue will be generated from the project that will make up for the cost.
The results of the additional specimen from Washtenaw County came back negative for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus on Jan. 31, 2020. There are no confirmed cases in Michigan.

Ypsilanti is now accepting applications for dispensaries to receive a permit to sell recreationally. The application will close on March 4 and there is no set date for when those that receive the permit can start selling to all adults 21 years old or older, though it's expected to start in April.
A car accident occured at the intersection of Washtenaw Ave. and Oakwood St. around 11 a.m on Monday, Feb. 3. The car involved in the accident was flipped upside down, however the driver is in stable medical condition. The accident was inview of the the Mark Jefferson Science Complex and McKenny Hall of EMU.
