Eastern Michigan University’s Dancing with the Stars, the final event for the Wellness Center’s Mental Health Awareness Week, debuted Monday in the Student Center Ballroom with a turnout of over 250 attendees when only 50 were expected.

Coming off a 73-69 win over Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan University on Saturday, the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team (7-19 overall, 5-8 MAC) has their sights set on tonight’s matchup against the Northern Illinois University Huskies (7-19, 2-11 MAC) in Dekalb, Ill.

Delta Sigma Phi preps for Plunge

The weather prediction for Tuesday in Michigan is a low of 78 degrees, with a high of 88, mostly sunny and just a light breeze coming in from the north. Just kidding. It’s going to be freezing, and yet, members of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity are still going to jump into the lake outside Eastern Michigan University’s Big Bob’s Lake House. Yes folks, it’s the Polar Plunge ’13.

Winter break is commonly known as spring break, unless you’re stuck in Michigan freezing your butt off. However, it doesn’t matter if you’re headed down to the warm beaches of Mexico or stuck in the Northwest, there are a lot of opportunities for you to get hurt. College women in particular tend to find themselves in dangerous situations during spring break.

Gymnastics travels 4,000 miles for win

The Eastern Michigan University women’s gymnastics team traveled nearly 4,000 miles to compete Sunday against the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves. Even with a four-hour time difference, the Eagles prevailed to win the meet 193.350-192.850, which brought them to an overall record of 2-5.

Televisions take away from intimate feel in restaurants

Americans enjoy watching TV. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Americans aged 15 and older spend about half of their leisure time watching TV—an average of 2.8 hours a day. But when was it decided, seemingly en masse that we are incapable of eating a meal at a restaurant without a television looming in the background?

Eastern Michigan University’s Service EMU has launched a Student Text Club that will notify participants about registration, bill payments, financial aid and other academically related things.

SAFE shares ways to better campus life for LGBT students

Eastern Michigan University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center hosted its SAFE campaign Tuesday in the Student Center to inform students and staff of ways to help maintain an inclusive campus for all people, regardless of sexual orientation.

Looking for something to do? Here are a few on-campus activities to keep your week interesting. Join presenter Diane Brookins and Students for Life for the Black History Month event, Life of a People, Monday at 6 p.m. at Halle Library. The event is Learning Beyond the Classroom credit approved.

EMU falls to Buffalo

The snow falling outside the Convocation Center didn’t stop the 252 devoted fans from coming to see the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team take on its Mid-American Conference foe, the University of Buffalo Bulls, Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn’t sustain any momentum, and as a result lost to the Bulls 79-63.
