Athletic funds could be used for academics

It’s time we re-examine Eastern Michigan University’s football program. Again. In a Dec. 3 front-page column, The Eastern Echo sports editor called for the firing of head coach Ron English. With an overall record of 10-38, I agree. However, I suggest the Board of Regents refrain from its usual knee-jerk reaction of addressing the football program’s failure by tossing more dollars at it.

The Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department and football team announced Tuesday offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ken Karcher is “no longer a member of the EMU coaching staff.” On the heels of a 2-10 season, it was clear that a change needed to be made and Karcher ended up being the program’s choice.

Wrestling continues streak by getting win vs Vikings

The Eastern Michigan University men’s wrestling team has defeated the Cleveland State University Vikings for five straight seasons, and this season was no exception. The Eagles returned home to triumph over the Vikings Friday at Bowen Field House.

Wrestling wins 2, loses 1 at meet

The Eastern Michigan University men’s wrestling team showed improvement when they competed at the North Dakota State University Quad meet Saturday. They took on the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Itasca Community College Vikings and the North Dakota State University Bison.

Prosecutor for accused I-96 shooter announced Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings, Livingston County Prosecutor David Morse and Shiawassee County Prosecutor Randy Colbry announced Nov. 27 that the Attorney General’s Criminal Division will lead the prosecution of Raulie Casteel for crimes allegedly committed in the three counties.

Elementary students look forward to Winter Wishlists

The Eastern Michigan University Residence Hall Association is currently hosting Winter Wishlist, a program where students give back to students. EMU students are given the opportunity to donate gifts to elementary school students enrolled at New Beginnings Academy in Ypsilanti.
