Volleyball ends MAC tournament with loss

Eastern Michigan University’s women’s volleyball team saw its season end Friday afternoon as it lost, 3-2, to Northern Illinois in its Mid-American Conference tournament quarterfinals match at Toledo.

Carnes continues lecture series at EMU

This past Thursday Mark C. Carnes, a professor of history at Barnard College in New York delivered the third part of his lecture series “Rethink Higher Education.” In this lecture, entitled “Why History Textbooks (Including My Own) Don’t Get It,” Carnes questioned the use and effectiveness of textbooks in classrooms. “I cut out all of the detours and the ambiguity in my textbook to make it more concise,” Carnes said.

Regina Spektor to be seen in new light

There will be a free showing of “Regina Spektor: Live in London” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Student Center Auditorium. The Blu-ray will feature 18 of Spektor’s performances, from London’s Hammersmith Apollo Theater. It will be the first time fans can see Spektor perform at an uncomfortably close distance, as well as see footage of intimate details like sound check and peeks inside backstage.

As a student who lives off-campus with no meal plan, whenever I find myself with the cash to spend on dinner, I grab a quick bite in the Student Center from the regular fast food restaurants. I never really thought about eating anywhere else, even though I heard about DC1’s “Grilled Cheese Fridays,” and the Eateries, where most of the freshmen spend their dinner hours.

Linda Hogan speaks at Auditorium

After a lengthy list of credentials and honors for various books, including being “one of two writer/speakers to be invited to the U.N.,” Linda Hogan stepped onto the Eastern Michigan University Student Center Auditorium stage. Hogan’s speech Thursday was one of the events of Native American Heritage Month.
