BSU Memorial Rally

Eastern Michigan University's Black Student Union holds racial graffiti memorial rally

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, the Black Student Union held a rally in front of the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial reflecting on the racial graffiti incidents one year ago and the action taking place moving forward. The racist graffiti incident took place on Eastern Michigan University’s campus, where the words “KKK leave N------” was spray painted along the side of King Hall.

'Growing Hope' in Ypsilanti

Students from Eastern Michigan University’s Honors College gathered in downtown Ypsilanti to help with the development of Growing Hope’s new indoor community building Friday, Sept. 15.

EMU's 'Students for Justice in Palestine' protect messages on freedom wall

A disagreement among Eastern Michigan University students broke out around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, over the content painted on the school’s freedom walls and kiosk.  The student organization, “Students for Justice in Palestine” painted over the freedom walls, concrete blocks on campus where anyone can write messages.

The freshman experience: A muddle to find balance

As a freshman in collage, you’ve already been told many different ideas of what it’s supposed to be like. I remember my parents, high school teachers and the average T-rated teen movies giving me all sorts of ideas. Many mild-mannered adults will tell you college is the time to focus entirely on education, to engage in numerous courses and soak up all that sweet, sweet knowledge with your endless supply of ramen noodles.

8 things I wish I knew my freshman year

Freshman year of college is full of first-time experiences. The newfound freedom, the large size of campus and amount of students and opportunities to re-invent yourself are some of the basic changes you will experience. The purpose of this article, however, is to look at some things you might not have thought of. If you keep these eight things in mind, you will have a much better freshman year than most of your peers.

EMU students have rolled out plans for a food pantry at EMU

Eastern Michigan University may institute a food pantry soon. Haley Moraniec and Lynn Nybell presented the initiative at the Board of Regents Student Affairs Committee meeting March 17. “I work really closely with Earthworks urban garden in Detroit and that kind of sparked my inspiration and passion,” Moraniec, vice president of the Social Welfare Action Alliance, said in an earlier interview.
