Student Center Holds Panel: Ending Abortion Stigma Through Conversation

The Student Center held a panel titled Ending the Stigma of Abortion Through Conversation, Friday the 10th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All three of the women spoke from their own personal experiences with abortion. For the sake of their security they will all remain anonymous for this article. The only information disclosed was the ages they all are now and the ages they all were at the times they had their procedures.

Disney Channel's "Andi Mack" Includes LGBTQ Characters

The Disney Company has continued its goal of inclusion of the LBGTQ+ community with the Disney Channel series, “Andi Mack” which airs on Fridays at 8 pm. The series is the first Disney show or movie to include an LBGTQ+ storyline. Over this season “Andi Mack” will explore an overlying story of one of main characters coming out as gay, Cyrus Goodman (Joshua Rush). The storyline holds very real emotions of coming out as part of the LBGTQ+ community, including the fear of telling people and feelings that you must hide it to fit in, shown through the eyes of character Cyrus Goodman. According to ABC News the subsequent episodes of the season will deal with Cyrus’s, “journey to self-acceptance as a gay person.”

Latinx Student Association holds Dia de los Muertos Celebration

The Latinx Student Association (LSA) has been preparing for the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration all month. It took 10  people to set up an hour before the event began on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Around 85 students signed into the event. However, it appeared that more than one hundred students attended the event to enjoy the night’s festivities. Students came in for various reasons including EMU’s Edge program, study table hours, and fun.

Eastern Michigan University's Latinx Student Association celebrates Dia de los Muertos

The Latinx Student Association has been preparing for the Dia de los Muertos celebration all month.  Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in many different ways across Hispanic culture, but the underlying theme is to celebrate the lives of loved ones who have died. Having an altar is a Dia de los Muertos tradition that is shared across many Spanish countries. The altar is a symbol of respect for loved ones.

Former EMU student arraigned for racial graffiti on campus

A former EMU student was arraigned Monday morning in the Washtenaw County District Court for the racial graffiti incidents on campus during the Fall 2016 semester.  Eddie Curlin, 29, who was already in jail for unrelated charges, was arraigned on three counts of malicious destruction of property, four counts of identity theft and one count of using computers to commit a crime stemming from vandalism incidents.
