The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team competed in the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate tournament from March 23-25. The team played some of its best golf all season, finishing in seventh place out of the 27 teams participating in the tournament, shooting 879 as a team.
This high placement on the leaderboards for the Eagles included four of their five participants finishing in the top-50.
No. 50 Texas Tech University finished in first, place shooting 851 as a team.
No. 48 University of North Carolina at Greensboro finished in second place, shooting 864 as a team.
Radford University finished in third place, shooting 865 as a team.
Round One Results – March 23
Michael Blair finished day one in a tie for fifth place shooting a new career-low 70.
Brett White finished day one in a tie for seventh place shooting a 71.
Kyle Rodes finished shot a 73 to finish day one in a tie for 21st place.
Brian Churchill-Smith shot a 74 and finished day one in a tie for 36th place.
Joey Kremer who only shot three more strokes than Churchill-Smith, finished day one in a tie for 75th place shooting a 77.
The Eagles shot 288 as a team. They finished day one in a two-way first place tie with Texas Tech.
Round Two Results – March 24
After round two, the Eagles sat in second place. They bettered their round one score of 288 shooting a 286 in the second round.
Texas Tech snagged first place after shooting a 278 as a team.
Along with their second place marking on the leaderboard, the Eagles had four golfers finish in the top 20.
Blair finished day two in a tie for eighth place shooting a 72.
White finished day two in a tie for 12th. He shot a 72, also.
Churchill-Smith finished day two in a tie for 14th, shooting a 70.
Rodes finished day two in a tie for 20th. Along with Blair and White, he shot a 72, as well.
Kremer dropped to 83rd place shooting a 77 to match the previous day.
Round Three Results – March 25
Blair landed in a tie for 19th place shooting a 77 in the third round. Along with this being Blair’s first career top-20 finish, this was his lowest three round score – he shot a 219 which was a stroke better than his previous low of 220, which he shot at the Wolverine Intercollegiate.
Churchill Smith finished the tournament in a tie for 25th shooting a 76.
Rodes finished the tournament in a tie 45th shooting a 78.
White finished the tournament in a tie for 50th shooting an 81.
Kremer finished the tournament in a tie for 72nd shooting a 74.
After the final round, the Eagles dropped to seventh place after round three shooting a tournament-low 305.
Texas Tech remained in first place shooting a 285.
UNCG jumped from their fifth place spot to second after shooting a 285 in the third round.
Radford improved to third place from fourth after shooting a 287 in the third round.
On April 12-13, the Eagles will be competing in the Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio.
