“Growing Up Muslim in Bombay” is an equal parts autobiography and poem book written by Saleem Peeradina. Peeradina teaches at Siena Heights University in Adrian, a school that he described as being “strategically isolated.”
The Autism Collaborative Center hosted their Autism Spectrum Disorders 101 lecture on Saturday. The event was designed to inform volunteers by providing a big-picture look at autism spectrum disorders, as well as familiarizing them with the center.
Eastern Michigan University’s aging studies program hosted their annual fall lecture on Wednesday. They welcomed Dr. Donna Algase, the associate dean of research and evaluation at the University of Toledo, as their guest lecturer. Algase has dedicated her career to dementia-related studies, concentrating specifically on wandering behavior in dementia patients.
On Thursday, the Disability Research Center held an open forum meeting, with speaker Randall Ward, who is a candidate for the director of Disability Resource Center position. They discussed the different legal decisions and new legislation that is impacting universities around the country, including Eastern Michigan University.

Students across the Eastern Michigan University campus were asked, “Do you know what Apple picking is?” The majority thought it had to do with physically picking apples off of a tree. The reality is, the term Apple picking has nothing to do with fall or fruit. Apple picking is the latest trend in thievery. According to ABCNews, this crime spree started spreading across the U.S. in the fall of 2012 and has only increased in frequency and intensity.
The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is the campus’ best source of student safety. But it is also essential that students do their part to insure their own safety and the safety of others at EMU.
