“How are you doing?”
“I’m doing well, thank you.”
We might say this every day, but how well are we doing?
So many factors affect our mood and how we feel on a daily basis.Emotional health can affect your physical health and vice versa.
So you want to try to keep them both in tip-top shape despite those winter blues that are sure to be setting in soon, if they haven’t already.
The second annual Winter Wellness Fair, held by the Council for Student Wellness is coming up to help you get back on track and make sure you’re not just doing well, you’re doing fantastic.
The fair will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 11 am until 1 p.m. at Olds-Robb Rec/IM on Eastern Michigan University’s main campus.
The Winter Wellness Fair is an interactive event meant to entertain and educate on how bettering your lifestyle can help better your life.
Last year’s event was considered to be a success by the
organizers, with about twenty vendors that attended. This year’s event is shaping up to be even better.
“We hope to see approximately 200 people attend, both students and employees,” said Winter Wellness Fair coordinator Martha Costa.
“Our response from departments wishing to set up a table at the fair seems to have increased, which is fantastic.”
Total wellness isn’t just something that Dr. Oz preaches about. It is a positive thing that is meant to be a lifelong journey toward reaching your full potential.
It combines health, happiness and practices in trying to meet these ideals dating back to the ancient Greeks.
Social, emotional, spiritual, occupational, environmental, physical, intellectual and financial are the eight dimensions of “wellness” that will be addressed at the fair. How you can improve all of them for yourself will also be showcased.
CAPS and the Wellness Center will have a booth focusing on emotional wellness, while booths from the EMU Dining Services, BYoung BFit and Trader Joe’s will have booths focusing on physical wellness.
“It’s a great time of the year to recall and consider the eight dimensions of wellness,” Costa said.
“And since the fair is being held on Valentine’s Day, you can consider it the perfect gift … for yourself!”
Blood pressure screenings, music and plenty of giveaways will also be a part of the event.
“The Council for Student Wellness is committed to educating the campus community about the eight dimensions of wellness, how living a balanced lifestyle can provide optimum health and wellbeing,” Costa said.
It’s believed to be important to try to incorporate all of these dimensions of wellness into your life, even if they aren’t all at their maximum.
Financial and intellectual wellness may be at the top of most student’s to-do lists. Everyone is stressing out, so just take a breather.
So if you’re looking for a little pick-me-up to get you through the rest of this winter, the 2012 Winter Wellness Fair will have just what you need.
