Create a signature lipstick color

Every girl deserves a lipstick color that she can call her own signature color. It’s hard to call something your own when everyone seems to have the same color that you love to wear. Within the past year or so, a creative soul decided to create their own lipstick color and shared how they did it with the world.

Since then, there have been various websites as well as videos on YouTube that show different ways to complete this budget-friendly project.

The great thing about this project is that you can create whatever color lipstick you like. You can create a Razzle Red, Starburst Yellow or just try your luck with your favorite colors and see what becomes of them. My top favorite crayon mixes are maroon and red orange to create a ruby red lipstick. I also like to mix blue violet, orchid and melon for a pale purple. If you’re feeling really creative, have some fun and add some glitter.

Keep in mind that if you’re a person who likes more of a matte look, the lipstick color has a smooth texture with a slight shimmer. But, don’t let this deter you from trying this. A quick tip to get your matte look is to delicately place a Kleenex over your lips, and dab translucent power over the napkin with a clean makeup brush.

The purpose of the Kleenex is to protect your lips from an overload of powder, and you want to make sure your makeup brush is clean because you don’t want to mix your lipstick color with another color from your makeup collection.

If your lipstick turns out too oily or too waxy, just wipe the container clean with a paper towel and start fresh. Remember, practice makes perfect.

Listed below I have found a method that seems to work the best. With just a few household items, you can make your own lipstick in custom colors, for under $5 a container.

Ingredients:

½ teaspoon oil (for mine, I used olive oil. It tastes decent and is also a great moisturizer)

Dime size amount of cocoa butter

Spoon

Metal container with a handle (I used a 1/3 measuring cup)

Source of fire

Half a peeled crayon of any color (you can mix crayon colors as long as it equals to half a crayon in length)

Small container such as an empty lipstick tube or contact lens container

Mix all of the ingredients together in the metal container and hold over an open flame. The crayons will start melting in under a minute. Once all of the ingredients are mixed together, stir with the spoon to blend thoroughly. Pour your newly made lipstick into the container and place in the fridge to cool. After your mixture as solidified, take it out of the fridge and enjoy.
