On Friday, March 24, the Eastern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team (1-7, 0-0 MAC) kicked off their first of two weekend matches, hosting the Marquette University Golden Eagles (9-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) at Scicluna Field. After falling 5-18, the team traveled to Indianapolis on Sunday, March 26 to visit the Butler University Bulldogs (3-5, 0-0 Big East) and came just one goal short, 13-14, of grabbing their second program win.
Against Marquette, freshman Mackenzie Blackwell (North Branch, MD.) led the team with two goals, one of which was assisted by freshman Amber Alderman (Lusby, MD.). Alderman’s sister, Abby Alderman, (Lusby, MD) also registered one goal over the match.
The Eagles’ second match against Butler remained close until the very end. The first period ended tied between the two teams, 5-5.
Graduate student Sydney Lawrence (Wylie, Texas) led the team in this match for scoring, as she netted a school-record five goals. Just one behind her, Blackwell added four to tally up six total on the weekend and was first in the team for goals scored (15).
The team will kick off Mid-American Conference play this coming weekend, making a short trip to Detroit Mercy (1-5, 0-0 MAC) on Saturday, April 1, at 12 p.m.
