What's the move? Summer Edition

Here are events taking place this week in Ypsilanti. 

Wednesday, May 31 - Ypsi Fine Arts Club

Open to artists, art lovers, collectors and curators, everyone is invited to this event, which will be held biweekly at Riverside Arts Center on Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m. Inspired by the Detroit Breakfast Club, artists and art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to come together, present their art and purchase pieces. Attendees are not required to present.

Thursday, June 1 - Depot Town Cruise Nights

Ypsilanti’s Depot Town will be filled with classic cars and activities for all ages weekly from the first Thursday evening in June until the last Thursday evening in August. Cars begin gathering before the street closes at 5 p.m. The event will also include Rally in the Alley, featuring local artists and vendors in the alley nearest to the Depot Town clock tower.

Friday, June 2 - Ypsi Pride 2023

Join the Ypsilanti community in kicking off the celebration of Pride Month on Friday, June 2, in Depot Town. From 4-10 p.m., Depot Town will be filled with LGBTQIA+ identifying performers and vendors in support of the community. Open to all, rainbow gear is encouraged.

Saturday, June 3 - Ypsilanti Farmers Market

Visit local vendors every Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., now through October in Depot Town at 100 Rice St. across from the Ypsi Frieghthouse. The market includes fresh seasonal produce, artisans, plants and flowers. Most forms of payment are accepted.

Sunday, June 4 - Zion Pride Yoga and Wellness

Zion Well is hosting their third annual Pride Yoga and Wellness at Riverside Park on Sunday, June 4, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The event will feature an all-levels yoga class, local mental health vendors and resources in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, music and giveaways. Proceeds will support Ozone House.


Ameera Salman

Ameera Salman uses she/they pronouns, and has worked for The Eastern Echo since Fall 2022. They started as Editor-in-Chief of Cellar Roots, then moved to Editor-in-Chief of The Eastern Echo in 2024. For the Fall 2025 semester they are serving as News Editor. Salman is a senior majoring in journalism with a minor in urban studies. 

Her job entails working hands-on with reporters to write the best stories they can. News is the heart of our mission, and it's her job to make sure it doesn't fall through the cracks. For her, the best part is the people. She feels it's really special to build a legacy by doing what she loves with people who love it too.
