State and local agencies restore regional 911 service

At 7:56 p.m. on August 22, EMU informed the campus community that service had been restored to regional 911 dispatches.

Earlier, at 6:35 p.m. on August 22, the EMU community received a message via text, call, and/or email through Rave Mobile Safety alerts stating that there was a regional 911 outage.

All students, faculty, staff, and those near or on campus were informed to call EMU Police at 734-487-1222 for all emergency and non-emergency calls until further notice.

At 7:07 p.m. EMU Chief of Police Matthew Lige said that the outage was being looked into.

"State and local agencies are working to identify the cause and restore services," Lige said.

As of 7:56 p.m., campus community members can reach police at 734-487-1222 or 911 for emergencies.


Ameera Salman

Ameera Salman uses she/they pronouns, and has worked for The Eastern Echo since Fall 2022. They started as Editor-in-Chief of Cellar Roots, then moved to Editor-in-Chief of The Eastern Echo in 2024. For the Fall 2025 semester they are serving as News Editor. Salman is a senior majoring in journalism with a minor in urban studies. 

Her job entails working hands-on with reporters to write the best stories they can. News is the heart of our mission, and it's her job to make sure it doesn't fall through the cracks. For her, the best part is the people. She feels it's really special to build a legacy by doing what she loves with people who love it too.
