The Eastern Michigan University football team put on a spectacular performance, shutting out visiting St. Francis University, 36-0, on Saturday, September 21. The Eagles (3-1) displayed an impressive range of scoring, notching touchdowns through a defensive fumble return, a rushing play, a blocked punt, and aerial strikes, marking their first shutout victory since 2008.

The first game on Crosby Field showcased excellent defense from the Eagles as Jacksonville State scored a touchdown, taking a 6-0 lead. With nine minutes left in the first quarter, Tyler Mines (Homestead, Florida) led a drive for ten more yards. Marcus Allen (Tucker, Georgia) provided an opportunity for a touchdown, and thanks to Mines, the Eagles scored a touchdown, followed by a field goal from Jesús Gómez (Puebla, México/Prepa Tec Puebla).

Eastern Michigan had a rare opportunity to face the Washington Huskies on Sept. 7, 2024, who were the 2024 College National Champions runner-up. Although Washington won 30-9, the game had highlights, including Jesus Gomez breaking a school record by connecting on a 57-yard field goal, surpassing a mark held by only two previous players. Despite the loss, there were several positives from EMU’s performance against Washington.

As the winter season approaches, staying healthy is a top priority for many. To help, Corner Health Center in Ypsilanti is hosting a flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Friday, Nov. 3 from 5-6 p.m. In addition, a “Wonderland” free family photo event will take place at the same time.
