When I heard that Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba, AFI bassist Hunter Burgan and My Chemical Romance drummer Jarrod Alexander were forming a side project, I was automatically curious about the alt-punk supergroup. I was anxiously awaiting Matt Skiba and the Sekret’s May 8 release, “Babylon,” despite my pet peeve for things purposely spelled wrong, and with good reason.

After 15 years in the music business, Detroit-native Jack White has quite a few projects under his belt. In addition to producing countless albums for many artists, he was a member of four bands before releasing six studio albums with The White Stripes, two with The Raconteurs and two with The Dead Weather. For someone who has attempted to play multiple instruments and failed, and couldn’t carry a tune if my life depended on it, music plays a huge part in my life and has for a long time. My first cassette tape was Hanson’s “Middle of Nowhere.” I was torn between Backstreet Boys and N*Sync, and my first concert was Britney Spears’ “Oops I Did It Again” tour. Those days got me into music, but it wasn’t until my discovery of pop punk I became the music buff I am today.

Women have always had their special place in music. If they weren’t the ones performing the songs, they were the muses behind some of the biggest hits of all time. It was the Spice Girls back in the 1990s that seemed to have coined the term “girl power.” Since then, women have only gotten more popular in today’s industry. Every other song on the radio is either by Rihanna or Katy Perry, and Adele completely dominated this year’s Grammy Awards. In honor of last week’s International Women’s Day, I’m going to fill everyone in on some of the most underrated women in music today.

This past weekend I saw the Black Keys in concert. No, this isn’t a concert review. I’m not telling you all about the show that’s done and over with, and no matter how good I make it sound, you’re unable to attend. This is just a good jumping-off point, telling you of my weekend’s happenings.

When you think of the 1999 film, “She’s All That,” what’s the first scene that pops into your head? Admit it, we’ve all seen it and love it. Aside from Rachel Leigh Cook’s random, angry expletive that had us all gasp when we saw it in sixth grade, the scene that most stands out is probably Freddie Prinze Jr.’s artsy footbag performance.
