Thursday, Sept. 15 A burglary was reported at 4:58 p.m. at Concord Drive. The offense occurred on Sept. 15 between 7 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. The current status of this case is open. A subject was arrested for felony warrants and also in possession of a controlled substance at 6:17 p.m. at Adams and Washtenaw Avenue. The current status of this case is open.

Echo continues the search for answers in the case of Sandra Bland

In lieu of a recent opinions column published online by Makayla Stevenson concerning the general lack of interest in the investigation of Sandra Bland’s death, medical examiner legal consultant, David Fisher, contacted The Eastern Echo and shared details into his investigation of the case that he will be presenting to Texas legislative this week. Fisher provided several documents including: The official Autopsy report, Texas Commission Law Enforcement personal information, custodial death report, and several letters about the legality of out of county autopsy.

Eastern Michigan University’s music and dance department kicked off its three day biennial Music Now Fest with “Chamber Music of Steven Stucky,” Wednesday night in Pease Auditorium. Steven Stucky, 65, is the featured composer this year. “He’s arguable one of the greatest living American composers.

The Vagina Monologues are known for bringing support to women and is a creative outlet for women who want to share their experiences, positive or negative, about their journey of womanhood. While the play does have many supporters there are some who do not agree with it.

Selma the one woman play

The film “Selma,” a movie about Dr. Martin Luther King’s march to fight for African American voter rights in Alabama will be showing in the Student Center as a one woman play about the life, death, and aftermath of Viola Liuzzo. Selma ’65 tells the tale of a white woman from Detroit who felt an urge to fight for voter rights in Alabama after seeing violence against protesters taking place on television.

When people think of domestic violence they assume that it means a black eye or scars and bruises all over a woman’s body, but there is much more to it than just visible marks and it can happen to anyone. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States and females who are 18-24 years of age are most commonly abused by an intimate partner. If an intimate partner is trying to control you by cutting off your friends and family, not giving you freedom to wear what you want, say what you want, or spend your own money how you would like to then these are all signs of abuse.
