LGBT activist Ochs to speak on campus

·

During Bill Clinton’s first administration in 1996, the Defense of Marriage Act was passed which stated that “No State needs to treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage … this is a federal law.” While this act was passed 14 years ago it is still in effect today.

In hard economic times, most consumers look to stretch their dollar as far as it can go and Wal-Mart makes it easy for them to find deals. However, the competition usually drives local shops out of business.

Wal-Mart is easy on budget, hard on local businesses

·

It’s impossible to deny the popularity and influence of Wal-Mart. Almost everywhere you go in this country, you’re likely to encounter the Arkansas-based retail giant. Founded in 1962, the company has since spread through-out the world.

‘Trick ’r Treat’ becomes instant Halloween classic

·

Originally set to be released in theaters two years ago, Michael Dougherty’s “Trick ‘r Treat” finally was released direct-to-DVD last week. Normally, the phrase “direct-to-DVD” is short-hand for “too-awful-for-theaters,” and is reserved for horrible Disney spin-offs, unnecessary sequels and embarrassingly bad horror films. But “Trick ‘r Treat” is the rare direct-to-DVD release that is actually really good.

Drop that energy drink and reach for juice instead

·

Today we are bombarded by ads and marketing techniques from countless energy drink commercials. These commercials often tell us what the product does not contain but fail to identify its ingredients and how it compares to the drinks you would be enjoying as an alternative if you just picked up a cup of apple juice or V8.

Participants in the “No Strings Attached” activity play the roles of survivor, friend, or relative to show how a survivor might feel when she or he seeks help from those she or he depends upon and is turned down. The lecture, held by the Women’s Center, focused on the fact men as well as women can be victims of domestic violence.

Event inspires discourse on abuse

·

This Tuesday the Women’s Center at EMU sponsored a discussion called “No Strings Attached: A Survivors Perspective.” Many people are aware that this month is Outober and Breast Cancer awareness month, but few realize its also Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The entire staff of the production worked together to get the show up and running for viewing, here staff is seen setting up the lights and doing checking to see if the light positioning is correct.

Award-winning play on campus

·

In 2004, Sarah Ruhl wrote a charming and empowering piece called “The Clean House.” That same year it won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. It is the tale of a Brazilian maid named Mathilde, the daughter of two comedians.

One-Night Stands, Walks of Shame and Other Fun Party Games

·

I’ve got a bone to pick. I’m getting a little sick of people’s attitudes towards casual sex. If I had a nickel for every time I heard people refer to the Walk of Shame, I’d drop out of school and start my own brothel. What exactly is the Walk of Shame?

Hungry for a new adventure

·

Vegetarian or not, getting one’s daily dose of vegetables isn’t an easy thing to do. Just spend an afternoon watching television and you’ll learn from numerous ads getting enough fruits and vegetables is an issue millions of Americans face.

Student Org. Spotlight

·

For many people, philanthropy is seen as a necessary burden—something they know they should do but aren’t completely invested in. They understand the importance of helping others, but they don’t understand what it means in their own lives.
