EMU autism center featured on PBS

Eastern Michigan University is in the process of implementing four initiatives to improve student retention rates. With the current graduation rate at 39 percent, EMU is taking a new approach to get students to graduate from the institution.

Trial of pro-choice doctor's killer continues

WICHITA, Kan. – As the murder trial continues for the man charged with gunning down abortion provider George Tiller, the drama isn’t limited to the courtroom. Supporters of Scott Roeder continued to arrive in town Tuesday and abortion-rights advocates called for federal authorities to step up their investigation into a possible conspiracy of anti-abortion violence. The supporters themselves, and their statements this week, are evidence enough that there’s an extremist network said, said Kathy Spillar, executive vice president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, who is attending the trial. “Many of this extremist network with whom Scott Roeder clearly has been involved are here in the courtroom,” Spillar said.

Snow Health Center offers H1N1 shots

Snow Health Center hosted another H1N1 vaccination clinic from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday. The event was organized by registered nurses Lori Kilian and Ann Marie. Twenty-two people received vaccinations, the majority of those being children of EMU students. “This is really important because young children and just children in general, even up to college students are the ones most susceptible to the H1N1 virus,” Marie said. Children under 9 will need either two injections or nasal spray doses of the vaccine.

The City of Ypsilanti is planning to use money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the $320,000 project. Cross walks will also be added near Forrest Avenue, Cross Street and in front of Pease.
