Typically, faculty are not too engaged with the process of recruiting students. At the recent Regents meeting on Oct. 24, several faculty members showed how their programs were successfully increasing enrollment rates. It is hoped that the success of these programs will inspire other faculty campus-wide to develop their own programs to bring in more students to EMU.

Oct. 8, 2019 in EMU’s Student Center Ballroom, The Nation organized and put on EMU’s own Trap Karaoke event. The Ballroom was full of energy and self-expression as a community through singing, rap and dance.

Student Government and the EMU Foundation worked together to fund and begin the Student Emergency Fund. This fund allows students who are struggling financially to reach out for help and receive a $750 grant if applicable.
During the Senate meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22, Senator Nick Galluzzo and representatives from Protect Life at EMU made the Student Government aware of the destruction of the pro-life chalk messages on campus. Planned Parenthood Next Generation said they did not encourage any destructive behavior from its members. Galluzzo said he plans to write a resolution addressing the inequalities evident in the current campus climate.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Student Government listened to the ideas and agendas of applicants running for the two available Senate chairs. After a lengthy meeting and multiple votes, the Senate chose Duaa Aljirafi and Domenic Dame for the positions. They encouraged those who did not get chosen to try again at a later time or pursue a delegate position.
The initiative features a cross-sectional survey of EMU students, faculty and staff. The committees findings will help identify strengths and challenges of making Eastern a more diverse and inclusive campus.
As of June 4, the university has payed an additional $400,000 towards the purchase of an 11 acre property across from Eastern's Ann St. parking lot. The property is considered a "Brownfields property" by the EPA. This is the second deposit paid by the university after an initial $45,000.
On Thursday, October 18, Campus Life and Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Society co-hosted an event called “Beat the DJ” in Student Center room 310AB. Team “We Here to Win” took the ultimate victory with a total of 4138 points, becoming the inaugural winners of Beat the DJ.
YpsiWrites held its grand-opening themed “Everyone’s a Writer” at all three YDL locations on Saturday. Ypsilanti community members participated in writing prompts, activities and winning prizes.
