Ypsi, EMU collaborate for community safety

Following a series of violent crimes in the area around campus, including the death of Eastern Michigan University student Demarius Reed, officials from both the EMU Police Department and the Ypsilanti Police Department have worked to strengthen relationships between the university and the city.



Two men arrested in connection with Reed homicide

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Eastern Michigan University football player Demarius Reed, according to court records. The Ann Arbor News reported that Ed Jemeal Thomas and Kristopher Kaivon Pratt, both 20, face charges murder and robbery charges.

Nov. 19 An unknown subject wrote a Twitter name in permanent marker on an elevator in Pittman Hall at 1:13 a.m. The same Twitter name also appeared on whiteboards in the building. Police are following up on the investigation.

Veterans and Swiss cheese; rethinking tax code

Gov. Rick Snyder, Republican of the Great Lakes State, recently made law a bill that offers property tax relief to veterans. More specifically the law now allows former members of the armed services who are fully disabled to qualify for an exemption from state and local property taxes.


Lee scores 38 off the bench as EMU moves to 5-0

After scoring six points against Cleveland State University, Ray Lee responded with a vengeance by scoring a career-high 38 in EMU’s 74-69 win over the University of Texas at Arlington on Saturday night at the Convocation Center to move to 5-0 for the first time since the 1996-97 season. Lee was on top of his game as he went 5-for-5 from three-point range, 12-for-15 shooting and 9-for-12 from the foul line.


Eagles offense absent in 58-7 loss to Bowling Green

Eastern Michigan University’s 65 total yards was 495 short of Bowling Green State University’s total on Saturday. Only four of those yards came from the Eagles’ passing game in a 58-7 loss to BGSU on Senior Day at Rynearson Stadium. “We tried about everything we had,” interim coach Stan Parrish said.

Eagles beat KSU, earn MAC Tourney spot

The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team headed to Kent, Ohio, on Sat. Nov. 16, with a Mid-American Conference Championship tournament spot on the line. The Eagles defeated the Kent State University Golden Flashes three sets to one.

Nov. 16 A student was suspected of marijuana use in Hoyt Hall at 6:41 p.m. Nothing was found, and the student was not charged.

Football to take on BGSU at home Saturday

For Eastern Michigan University, stringing wins together has been a challenge over the past two seasons. The last time the team won back-to-back games was in 2011, over Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University.

Students give opinions on new gaming consoles

On Friday, Sony launched its latest gaming console, the PlayStation 4. Sales were so high over the weekend that Sony’s platform for online gaming and selling game downloads, the PlayStation Network, had network issues due to high traffic on launch day.

Student veterans gathered for a meet-and-greet Thursday afternoon at the Student Center and took advantage of the chance to share their stories about drill sergeants, boot camp, deployment, bad chow, bad pay and many other facets of military life.
