02414 -- Scott Stephenson Eastern Echo Scholarship:  This expendable scholarship is for the benefit of student(s) in the School of Communication, Media & Theater Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences.  It will be awarded to a full or part-time junior or senior EMU student majoring in journalism and working for the Eastern Echo.  The student should be working to self-finance their education and not be eligible for need-based grants.

Ypsilanti plans to further monetize parking

Accident Brief: Car flips just off-campus on Washtenaw and Oakwood

A car accident occurred on Monday, Feb. 3 just off the campus of Eastern Michigan University. The accident was in view of the the Mark Jefferson Science Complex and McKenny Hall. This is within the jurisdiction of Ypsilanti City police and first responders.

Ypsilanti tight on public safety training, but making improvements in 2020

In the Jan. 10 edition of Ypsilanti’s bi-weekly newsletter to the public, a variety of updates to the city were noted, including that “Ypsi will still be tight on public safety staffing, despite us likely adding staff for the third consecutive budget year. That should tell you how much our city had to cut staff in the key departments of Police and Fire over the last 15 years or so. Our officers and firemen are doing a lot with a little, our hats are off to them."

Three Michigan Coronavirus specimens tests come back negative, health officials await one result

The results of three specimens’, two from Washtenaw and one from Macomb counties, came back negative for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Washtenaw County Health Departments are still waiting on the results of another specimen from Washtenaw County.

Business and Finance Committee approves all club sport allocation requests in full

EMU Student Government allocates $4,300 to student organizations in most recent finance meeting

The Business and Finance Committee at Eastern Michigan University began their meeting on Jan. 28 with a student organization budget of $23,462.41. They allocated a total of $4,316.19 to student organizations by the end of the meeting.

Eagle Nutrition Services host home-cooking classes

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, dietetics students and Eagle Nutrition Services hosted a home-cooking class at Rackham Hall. For $5 participants were instructed on healthier home cooking by EMU dietetics students.

Ypsilanti and Amtrak hope to bring train station to Depot Town

Amtrak is working with the city of Ypsilanti in hopes of constructing a new train station in Depot Town. This is the beginning of investments throughout the metropolitan area in 2020. The train stop/station is expected to help community members travel safely, increase economic prosperity in Washtenaw county and even help EMU students traveling to and from Detroit and Chicago especially.

The USAF Band of Mid-America’s Shades of Blue jazz ensemble performed in Pease Auditorium on Tuesday, Jan 21. The band consisted of 16 musicians and two vocalists who accompanied the band during four songs.

Girlfriend arrested after stabbing boyfriend multiple times with a katana-type sword in Ypsilanti Township
