New gallery celebrates EMU's history

The grand opening of the new McKenny Gallery Thursday will feature the exhibition “A Tradition of Leadership.”“The gallery was designed to give our current students, faculty, staff, alumni and all of the employees who have worked here in the past a place where they can share memories and learn more about the people, programs and events that make Eastern Michigan University the outstanding institution it is today,” said Walter Kraft, vice president of communications at EMU.This exhibit will feature items from university archives and alumni donors.

Higgins’ 4th album has roots in Australia

Missy Higgins’ fourth studio album, released in early September, is a masterpiece of Australian covers. OZ is comprised entirely of hit songs from Australian artists, reimagined in her own light. The album expresses Higgins’ roots in her home country, and the book included with the album describes her connection to each of the songs she included on the LP.

In the winter season of 1909, an organization called the Stoic Society made their mark on the campus of Eastern Michigan University by being one of the first self-proclaimed honors organizations on campus.

Drum workshop unites, inspires

Imagine more than 70 heartbeats made audible by the pounding of drums. A middle-aged man, with tattoos and a hoop earring, leads the drumming while students, faculty and members of the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor community follow along in Eastern Michigan University’s orchestra classroom.

Matt Jones a soulful local performer

On Thursday, I had the pleasure of meeting a hidden gem in the Ypsilanti music community. The lights were dim, with whispers of conversation as local musician Matt Jones and I conversed about his passion; soulful, honest music.Jones’ latest album, “The Deep Enders,” is a mix between a cool breeze on a hot summer day, and the calming sounds of cellos colliding with the smooth sounds of a rugged guitar.

The latter playing host to Eagletainment's very own Queso Tone as a musical performance, with the shows closing act Anthony Roperti a former guest of the show.
