Review: Four new music releases to listen to for a great start in 2021.
While 2020 was obviously not a great year, music is one thing that brought positivity during the darkness and helped bring people together through the still going hard times.

Dodie is back again with a new release from her upcoming album “Build A Problem”. This song is a release of a fan-favorite titled “Rainbow.” It is just as wonderful as the rest of her music and I am elated to be able to finally download it onto playlists. It is such a gorgeous song that makes me even more excited for the upcoming release in March.
Like many others, I decided to pick up a show to watch over the recent Thanksgiving break. What better way to spend the time than by relaxing? I personally popped on some episodes of The Great British Bake Off, (or the Great British Baking Show as it’s called on Netflix US) . This is the first year I’ve watched Bake Off during the same year it aired, so I was very excited for it. I was actually able to keep up with some of the tweets and memes as they were coming out.

Adventure Time is a childhood classic for many Millennials and Gen Z. The show remains in the hearts of fans even years after coming to an end.
Since blowing up after releasing hit track “Old Town Road,” and then his first project "7" in June of 2019, new music has been long-awaited from Lil Nas X. Finally, the fans have gotten what they wanted with his new single “HOLIDAY.”
If you’re reading this, it’s already too late. You’ve missed your chance to see the videos that made up Unus Annus. Unus Annus was a YouTube project started by Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach and Ethan “CrankGameplays” Nestor. The idea was to upload a video every single day starting Nov. 15, 2019, and delete the channel after the full year. There was no monetisation of these videos, and they’re purely just for the conceptual idea of the project. An idea that seems so simple on the surface became something much bigger than the sum of its parts.
Ariana Grande has never shied away from being positive and promoting self love, which are both some of her most preached concepts on her past two albums thank u, next and Sweetener. Now, the singer has released a new album titled Positions expanding on those same themes and more.
Bea Miller has been releasing mini-compilations throughout quarantine, but the singer is finally giving fans what they deserve, a 7-track project titled “elated!” full of new songs and relatable moods.
It’s that time of year again and the fall season is in full swing. As we all know, one of my favorite shows to watch in this season is "Over the Garden Wall." It’s a cult classic loved by many. One of the greatest things about the miniseries is the soundtrack, which was performed by The Blasting Company.
Sam Smith (Smith goes by pronouns they/their) is back with their latest project “Love Goes” and Smith remains the passionate singer we’ve come to expect since their debut back in 2014.
Since releasing the hit single “Medicine” in 2018, along with her self titled EP, music lovers have wondered when this woman of high class R&B would be providing more music. This past Friday, Queen Naija finally brought fans what they have been waiting for.
Upcoming young musician Kennedi has just released her debut EP “self”, a compilation of five beautiful autobiographical tracks. Earlier this month, the artist gave listeners the single “liquor love,” a great demonstration of talent to prepare listeners for the project.
British music sensation Dodie is back at it again with a beautiful new single. Dodie released her newest song, “Cool Girl” on Oct. 19, the same day she announced her upcoming debut album “Build a Problem”, which will be released on March 5. The announcement was prefaced by about two weeks of videos on her YouTube channel, “doddlevloggle,” in which she slowly knitted the letters for “Build a Problem” in a hang-man style puzzle. This new single shows promise for her upcoming album and I am very excited to hear more from her.
Mariah Carey has been a major superstar for almost 30 years. Her latest release, “The Rarities” is a mix of never released songs that she recorded throughout her career and some live versions of songs that we already know and love.
Quickly on the rise after debuting his first project earlier this year and being featured on Drake’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes, R&B/Soul artist Giveon has wooed fans once again on his new EP, “When It’s All Said And Done."
Aloe Blacc is back with his new album “All Love Everything” and it’s full of songs that reflect the different seasons of your life. This album might feel like the soundtrack to a movie, but it might also just be the soundtrack to what it feels like to be human and experience the full range of emotions that comes with that- our shared human condition. This album celebrates that spirit, and helps uplift it.
Singer/songwriter Emily Li, also known as Emili, released a single titled “Better” on Friday, Oct 2. It seems as though the pandemic has kept this budding artist busy. You may recall I reviewed her first song release back in May. Since then, she has released seven new songs, including “Better”. Each release has continued to grow more and more touching, and I’m excited to be able to showcase this new piece.
I arrive at the Corner Brewery right around noon. It's a Friday. The tables are spaced out to promote social distancing and 90's grunge is playing in the background, setting the perfect ambience for a afternoon brew. I order a nice and fresh Buzzsaw and slide into a booth far off to the side.
While this Chicago rapper has begun to gain more and more recognition as of recent times, he's still an underrated artist nonetheless. Polo G has just released a new single titled “Epidemic,” alongside a paired official music video.
