The art gallery in the Student Center is holding a new exhibit, Perspectives, curated by professor Diana Pancioli. According to the Perspectives press release, “Perspectives presents new sculptural ceramic work exploring a diverse set of ideas.” It is also the first exhibition for sculptural ceramics the University Gallery has hosted, according to Gregory Tom, the program’s director.

Run Scream Run, hosted by Running Fit, is a day of scary costumes, healthy choices, a county fair and a haunted thrill park, all rolled into one. On Oct. 12, participants will line up at Wiard’s Orchard, located at 5565 Merritt Road in Ypsilanti for either a Freaky 5k or Terrorizing 10k.

The Eastern Eateries Homecoming Cookout event on Sept. 20 attracted many students with enough hot dogs, brats, chicken sandwiches and other BBQ foods to keep everyone full and happy. While a good number of people traveled through, it was never packed to the point that you couldn’t get food and despite the humidity, it was a good turnout.

Pianos ‘Round Town, a project developed by Korin Hancherlian-Amos, is in its fourth year this fall. Going from Sept. 20 until Oct. 8, seven pianos placed around Ypsilanti will be available for passersby to sit down and play anything they desire, from a few notes to a full concerto. Five of these pianos can be found on East Cross Street in Depot Town outside local businesses. A sixth piano resides outside of Mix on Michigan Avenue, and the seventh can be found at Tower Inn on Cross Street.

Just Arts and Music holds an open mic night monthly to find and showcase new talent. The event offers students a chance to get their feet wet onstage, often for the first time. The third floor of the Student Center gushed with music and poetry all night from talented students here at Eastern Michigan University.
