Don’t you hate when your favorite makeup product breaks? That shimmery, perfect eye shadow that shatters as it hits the ground, or the unfailingly flattering lipstick that gets smashed in the tube? Well, here’s the good news: You can repurpose them into better products in just a few minutes.
As fall settles in around Eastern Michigan University’s campus, the chill of the season gives more reasons to add new stylish pieces to your potentially already abundant collection. So here are some of the most stylish fall accessories and outerwear I have spotted around campus.
Jewelry is one of the easiest ways to accessorize and jazz up an otherwise plain outfit or make a special outfit even more unique. Making jewelry is fun, easy and the perfect way to add a personal touch.
The flavor of fall is typified by warm spices and the long-awaited return of the pumpkin. These timeless tastes compliment coffee very well, so it’s no surprise many coffee shops expand their menu during this season to cater to these autumn cravings. One such chain is Starbucks, not unlike the one in the Eastern Michigan University Student Center you probably walk by daily.
Halloween is an interesting time of year. It’s a day where people have the chance to be anything they want to be and Fantasy Attic, located at 19 E. Cross St. in Depot Town, is a bustling hotspot for putting together the disguise for your one-time-only identity.
This is a simple and cheap way to make a fake wound for Halloween, low budget films or even for a party. All you need are a few household items that most everyone has on hand. If not, they’re cheap enough to purchase at a dollar store.
Halloween is almost here, and that means if you don’t have a costume yet it’s time to get moving. One of the fastest, easiest DIY costume pieces is a cape. Simple yet dramatic, you can be anything from a vampire to a queen. This year, I’ll be wearing this cape as Red Riding Hood, maybe the single most cape reliant costume around.
If you had the opportunity to nerd out for something you love, would you? Think of the way Sheldon Cooper of “The Big Bang Theory” nerds out for his love of Spock and superhero icons (minus the slew of restraining orders and reassuring he’s not insane, which his mother had him tested for).
If you’re anything like me you let important events sneak up on you. When that important event happens to be Halloween, you may find yourself scrambling to assemble a costume that can be considered at least kind of witty and creative the morning of that spooktacular day. If this has happened to you in the past, fear not. Here are a few last-minute ideas that will insure that you will not be going to that party as “yourself.”
Face it, fall is here kiddies. But it’s not all bad. Boots are now comfortable to wear and you don’t feel like an idiot walking around with hot drinks.
Eastern Michigan University’s mascot of 20 years has been a cause of much debate. The eagle that was chosen to replace EMU’s Native American mascot attends football games, parties and events on campus. Swoop stands still and smiles for pictures, hugs children and runs around during sports games. Yet this merry mascot was not always the cause of happiness.
Why do T-shirts get worn out so quickly?
Eastern Michigan University lecturer David Calonne’s biography on German-born American author and poet Charles Bukowski was released in the U.S. Sept. 15 as part of London-based publisher Reaktion Books’ Critical Lives series, which covers the works of leading modern cultural figures in art, writing and philosophy.
“The only game that’s kept my attention recently is ‘Alice: Madness Returns.’ It’s a dark turn on the already demented ‘Alice in Wonderland’ fable. Normally, I’m not into things that are gothic or pointlessly macabre, but this game is awesome. The art direction is extremely cool.
Yes, I’m aware that we just did Reese’s Peanut Butter Puff Daddy Muffins a few weeks back. But these are delicious, so get over it.
Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin, is everywhere on campus. She’s in the student section wearing a cape, cheering on the Eagles. She’s in her office filling out paperwork. She’s talking to the board of trustees and she’s hanging out in Sherzer looking at stars with the astronomy club. Heck, the woman is even in the news. Little did you know, this omnipresent woman is weirder than you probably ever guessed.
Around this time of year, with Halloween just around the corner, people can be a little superstitious. Historical buildings, old crime scenes and dark cemeteries often give rise to stories and sightings of ghosts and other eerie presences. Some say it’s just folklore. But in a city with a past as rich as Ypsilanti’s, there very well could be some spirits who’ve yet to cross over and remain earthbound, haunting our community.
Like it or not, America’s coffee culture is here to stay. Some naysayers blame coffee and its caffeinated cousins like tea for many of our generation’s woes, such as anxiety and obesity, but it’s important to look at both sides of the cup, if you will.
For the most part, dorm cooking kind of sucks. The spaces are small and the amenities are hardly worth mentioning. I’ve tried to give you guys and gals some tips to making better food in your cement cells, but have yet to give you a fully dorm ready recipe, until now.
