Life

The silent film explores a man’s struggle with temptation.

Grindhouse Review: 'Sunrise'

·

Temptation is one of the seven deadly sins; it intoxicates our society and clouds the hearts and minds of one’s judgment, causing mixed emotions when it comes to making a simple choice. The Man (Brein) falls into the arms of another woman (Livingston), who gives him the idea to leave his life and wife behind in F.W. Murnau’s classic tale of betrayal and redemption.

Deon Chaneyfield, 25, opens up about how an EMU program has changed his life.

Best Buddies helped EMU student find voice

·

Hello EMU— I’m a 25-year-old man and my life is about being through so much. I am finally getting out there and really trying to get to know Eastern students. Getting comfortable with people is hard to really know a person. I feel like I’m going to get judged by people, and I’m just letting people know that is not good to judge other people by their disability when you don’t know what they go through in life.

Popular video games take on the role of Easter Bunny

·

As a child, one of the coolest things to do on Easter morning was to go on an Easter egg hunt. The Easter Bunny would hide plastic eggs all throughout the house, and if you found them all, not only would you get the candy inside, but you would feel a sense of accomplishment.

Pysanky is a Ukrainian technique using wax to create designs on colored eggs.

Katie's Craft Corner: Easter eggs

·

While in America they might be best known as a vehicle for grocery store kits, other cultures hold Easter eggs on a high and artful status. In Eastern Europe, notably Ukraine, a method for creating gorgeously colorful and elaborate eggs is called Pysanky.

Helping Hearts helps disabled on campus

·

When Eastern Michigan University student Emily Keyes broke her ankle in 2011, she had no idea how difficult it would be to get around on campus with a backpack full of books and a set of crutches.

The Light That Unites was an event in University Park where people decorated candle-lit mason jars honoring suicide victims.

Suicide prevention group hosts event

·

University Park on Eastern Michigan University’s campus was set aglow Monday night by rows and rows of decorated mason jars with small candles placed inside as part of The Light That Unites, an event put on by the Stigma and Fear End Now campaign. The colorful jars, each one decorated by an EMU student, was intended as a tangible reminder of a life that was lost.

	Travis Jarosz

Ypsilanti musician Watabou works on new projects, shows

·

Travis Jarosz is a pretty common name in the Ypsilanti music scene. He’s been involved in a few musical projects, ranging from metal bands to some short-lived jazz projects. He’s currently working with indie band Walk Your Bike, electro-punk Crochetcatpause and his electronic side project, Watabou. Watabou started in April 2009 as a general outlet for Jarosz’s musical ideas. He was involved in a couple of bands, but many of his bandmates were focused on the sound their band was creating or weren’t able to fully dedicate themselves to being in a band.

Wintertime is over... time for spring fashion

·

The break in our treacherous Michigan weather is right around the corner, which means it’s time for a change in wardrobes. Although outside it’s still really chilly, spring is upon us, and the sun has been shining brighter each day. There are some amazing trends to look forward to this season, and I’ll give the rundown on them with focus on things outside of actual apparel.

Justin Timberlake’s ‘The 20/20 Experience” has several songs that fall flat.

Matt on Music: Justin Timberlake's 'The 20/20 Experience'

·

While it’s often believed (especially by people who hate pop music) Justin Timberlake first came into his own as an artist with 2006’s “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” that can really be traced all the way back to ’N Sync. If not on their debut, Timberlake at least began to come into his own on “No Strings Attached.” It was there that he began to stand out as not only the finest lead singer in the boy band scene, but one of the finest singers in music.

LGBT center hosts annual Pride Prom

·

“In a high school setting, there’s not a lot of welcome and comfort for somebody to take their same-sex like boyfriend or girlfriend to a high school prom,” Mary Larkin, program coordinator of Eastern Michigan University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center, said.

“Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2” gets zero out of four stars for recycling material and bad acting.

Grindhouse Review: 'Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2'

·

From writer, director and editor Lee Harry comes the next installment to the cult slasher franchise, “Silent Night, Deadly Night” with part two. Shot on a budget of just under $300,000 and somewhat incorporating new material based on the original film’s storyline, the film picks up years after the death of Billy Caldwell (Robert Brian Wilson) who was the poor helpless soul who snapped after witnessing his parents being brutally murdered by a violent criminal in a Santa suit.

Virginia-based Corsair’s newest album is better than expected, and serves as a powerful heavy metal album.

Matt on Music: Corsair

·

Virginia-based rockers Corsair initially seemed like the type of group whose every idea represented something I dislike. They are typically described as heavy metal, their name is boring (although, to be fair, so are the names of the majority of bands I like), the cover of their self-titled album appears to be a failed attempt at epic imagery (which, in heavy metal, is often used to compensate for a lack of imagery and epic qualities in the songs), and they open the album with an instrumental called “Agathyrsi” that nears six minutes in length. Everything was in order for me to hate this band.
