·

Eastern Michigan University alumni Cooper Barnes and Chuck Ganchorre have always had a love for sketch comedy. Although the two have been working diligently creating hilarious YouTube videos with their Frog Island Comedy troupe since 2005, the comedians will finally get their national TV debut on the Syfy network’s new show, “Viral Video Showdown.”

Caffeine Chronicles #9: Ann Arbor's Bubble Island

·

If you’ve ever sipped a sweet cup of iced tea and thought to yourself, “Gee, if only there were some sort of strange gummy candies in here,” rest assured that you’re not the first. In fact, the tea shops of Taiwan beat you to it by nearly 30 years, when someone decided that the only thing better than tea was tea with chewy balls in it.

The Gregory Brothers to ‘Songify’ at EMU

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife and hide yo husband ‘cause the Gregory Brothers are coming to Eastern Michigan University. The musical group behind the YouTube sensation “Auto-Tune the News” will give a free presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Center Grand Ballroom.

Kitchen 101: Knife work

·

Good knife work is a lot like good foot work, when it’s happening you’re mesmerized and when it’s done you’re satisfied. I know I’m stretching my metaphors like Mr. Fantastic stretches, oh, forget it.

Matt on Music: Rhett Miller's 'The Dreamer'

·

Since this has been such a disappointing year for music, it figures that country music would suffer. There are normally only three or four very good country albums in a good year so, in a year like 2012, it’s practically hopeless.

The Vagrant Symphony celebrates 9th anniversary with show at Blind Pig

·

It’s been nine years since the idea for local outfit The Vagrant Symphony was formed on Eastern Michigan University’s campus in 2003. Chris “Chewy” Anderson, the founder, Joe O’Dell, the 12th member, Alexis King, the 13th member and Bennie Phinisee, the 14th member, are the backbone of the giant psychedelic folk band that’ll be celebrating its ninth anniversary in December.

Go Radio to promote latest release in Detroit Nov. 25

·

Crafting a song with both a catchy melody and meaning involves a great deal of skill. While many of the artists currently topping the charts seem to specialize in pumping out hit after soulless hit, Florida-based band Go Radio has mastered the art of creating music that is as meaningful as it is singable.

Matt on Music: Thanksgiving playlist

·

It’s Thanksgiving, a time to be thankful for and appreciate all the people and things you love. As a music fan, I am probably going to spend Thanksgiving the way I spend most of my free time: listening to records.

Kitchen 101: Thanksgiving cupcakes

·

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I thought it’d be a great time to give you a cool idea to make your meal special. Unfortunately, I had a terrible lapse of judgment and did a two-page Thanksgiving blow out last year. So, I was kind of out of ideas this year. Luckily, shortsightedness is the mother of invention.

The holidays are here and people are filled with cheer. Family will be coming together over Thanksgiving dinner to joke about the past year and rejoice the year to come. Web series gains fame

·

Since April 1, 2003, when “Red vs. Blue” was created by Burnie Burns after a failed attempt at a podcast called “Drunk Gamers,” the Machinima series has gathered millions of viewers and has become extremely popular.

10 fun facts about EMU’s homecoming king

·

In most parts of the world, all it takes is being popular in order to be crowned homecoming king. Here at Eastern Michigan University, however, we like to have better credentials for our homecoming kings. Blake Navarre was crowned 2012 Homecoming King back in October, and there’s more to Navarre than most people know.

Matt on Music: Imperial Teen's 'Feel the Sound'

·

As somebody who loves indie music as pop, I appreciate tunesmith bands like Vampire Weekend, Spoon and The Hold Steady more than supposed musical innovators like Animal Collective and Sigur Ros. By this measure, Imperial Teen is one of the purest indie bands around, and also one of the best.

Students celebrate diversity at fall feast

·

Continuing the celebration of Native American Heritage Month, students were welcomed to a dinner with engaging conversation and entertainment for the annual Fall Feast held Nov. 5 at the Eastern Michigan University Student Center.

How to deal with stress of mid-semester

·

So Eastern Michigan University’s midterms are over, most of us have our schedules for next semester set, and…now what? With the weather growing more and more unpleasant by the day and projects piling up, it’s easy to fall into a mid-semester slump.

Kitchen 101: Apple Pie Minis

·

Guess who’s back! (“Welcome Back Kotter” theme song plays.) Sorry for the long break, I was having disagreements with my editor. She wanted Kitchen 101 to be sexier. I told her I was more than a piece of meat, I’ve got tasty side dishes too!

EMU graphic designer develops original comic series

·

David Woodward is serious about silliness. You’ve likely seen his advertisements all over Eastern Michigan University’s campus—cartoon people and creatures encouraging you to eat at the Dining Commons—but his position as an assistant graphic designer is simply a job. Woodward spends most of his creative time and energy developing his original comic series “Gordie Gnomo.”
