Losing a loved one

·

Since I was very young, my grandmother and I have been very close. When I was a kid she was my main caregiver because of my mother’s hectic work schedule.

Add fright to your night

·

This Halloween season has been slow to start as far as horror films go, but there is one to save the day, as always. Paranormal Activity 3 is the second prequel in the ground-breaking series that is the Paranormal Activity franchise.

Jonny Corndawg to bring unique flair to Blind Pig

·

An oddity is coming to the Bling Pig. On Nov. 8 the downtown Ann Arbor venue will host country singer Jonny Fritz, better known by his stage name Jonny Corndawg. Even at first glance, the artist’s scraggley beard, obscure guitar coverings, retro clothing and website – pissonford.org – proves one thing: The rural Virginia-born singer is far from mainstream.

Wilco returns to experimental tendencies

·

Wilco – The Whole Love [dBpm; 2011] Indie Rock/Folk/Alternative Country How refreshing it is to see a band come off of an extremely underwhelming stint of retrogressive “rootsyness” and indulge once again in its more experimental tendencies. How refreshing it was to be left absolutely drooling in awe at the nuanced album opener “Art of Almost,” an epic that somehow circumvents an entire universe of imagination by blending motorik electronics, a jarring string orchestra, faux-tropical bass lines and a tumultuous Neil Young guitar solo – hold the Ritalin.

Blink over-generalizes for "Neighborhoods"

·

Blink-182 – Neighborhoods [Interscope; 2011] The bottom line: Neighborhoods finds Blink-182 tossing generalities at their rather general audience, hoping to inspire everyone but themselves. I must preface this review with a disclaimer: I am biased against pop-punk.

Unicyclist stands out

·

Getting around campus can be tiring. Walking seems to be the most popular; some drive, others skateboard or you see people wheeling around on bicycles.

Helping schools with just pennies

·

It can be hard to remember the details behind the first day of kindergarten. The way the classroom was decorated with cutout apples and pencils, the nametags with each student’s name carefully written and the blocks, books and puzzles that filled the shelves lining the walls.
