'Figurative Works' on display at Student Center

For centuries, people have actively searched for relationships with other bodies. Bodies are studied, criticized and sought out. This can be illustrated in The Figurative Works exhibit on display from Jan. 5 to Feb. 12 at Eastern Michigan University in the University Gallery located in the EMU Student Center.

Club Halle offers break from monotony of finals

When normal after hours for the Halle Library loomed Monday night, students gathered for the kick off of Club Halle, the time of the semester the library’s doors are open 24 hours to accommodate student’s study needs around final exams.

Woodruff's opens in wake of closings

Downtown Ypsilanti has become bare, with Pub 13, Savoy (once known as Club Divine), The Best Damn Sports Bar, J’Neil’s and Key Stone Underground Martini Bar all closing within a short span of time. Depot Town however, just got a new bar up and running. Woodruff’s is located next to Frenchie’s and Sidetracks, and just opened Nov. 29.

In 2010, with the release of the Droid, Kindle and the latest iWhatever, it seems consumers cannot have enough, or pay enough, for the latest gadgets. When these consumers do not understand how to fix their new toys, they inevitably call someone like Febbraro, a 21-year-old communication technology major at Eastern Michigan University.

Snow flurries and cold chills have taken over Eastern Michigan University’s campus. As people speak, the breath coming out of their mouths is visible and it’s freezing outside! It’s official, ‘Old Man Winter’ has arrived, and the best way to deal with it is to be prepared. The best way to make it through the weather’s extremes is to be as warm and comfortable as possible.

Pease hosts Shakesperean ballet recital

Pease Auditorium is not the most ideal place for a ballet. Every year, however, Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Music and Dance makes it work to put one on. This year the performance was facilitated by a brand-new stage extension, and the magic of Shakespeare was set.

With final exams approaching fast, Eastern Michigan University’s Campus Life looks to provide new and interesting studying alternatives for the college student with his or her nose stuck in a book or feverishly typing out a final essay. Snack and Study is just one of those alternatives.

This past Wednesday was the 22nd World AIDS Day – a day “about raising awareness to tackle HIV prejudice and help stop the spread of HIV,” according to worldaidsday.org.

WEMU will face new era as director preps to retire

Eastern Michigan University’s public radio station, WEMU, is winding down to the end of era as station manager and executive director Art Timko, 64, will retire after 42 years of service. The Timko era will vanish after Dec,31, leaving behind a great legacy and a blueprint for the future.

Brain cancer's obstacles many, diverse

Imagine being 5 again. Now imagine being 5 and being told you have Medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer. Jonathan Eissler, now 29 and an Eastern Michigan University student, was diagnosed with a Medulloblastoma tumor at age 5. He was just starting first grade.

'Pippi' brings out inner child of theater

When you consider the back-talking, truancy, aiding and abetting of criminals, evading arrest and owning a horse and a monkey without proper permits, Pippi Longstocking might not be the best role model for kids. What the character lacks in conventional law-abiding citizenry, she more than makes up for with her ingenuity, heart, simplicity and innocence. It is these characteristics Director Pam Cardell excelled at bringing to the Eastern Michigan University Theatre’s stage production of “Pippi Longstocking.”

Quirk to see musical debut of childhood classic

Tomorrow, Quirk Theater hosts the opening of “Pippi Longstocking,” directed by Pam Cardell. This childhood classic features the ever-lovable Pippi, who is waiting for the return of her swashbuckling pirate father, evading children’s welfare and making some new friends along the way.

Indie art fest, local music feature Ypsi

Since Ypsilanti was selected to take part in Michigan’s Downtowns program in 2007, there has been steady development in the historic downtown areas on and around Michigan Avenue. Ypsi’s own Club Divine was revamped earlier this year, becoming what is now the edgier and intimate Savoy, a new music venue with a standing capacity of 700, located at 23 N. Washington Street.

Ballet to deliver fresh holiday experiences

With the colder weather and upcoming holidays, people might be looking for something to do indoors other than going to the usual old movie. With the holidays coming, there are many ballet performances, but most of them are of the same tired ballet, “The Nutcracker.” Eastern Michigan University has decided to put a fresh spin on the December ballet performance by performing the more unique, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream Ballet.”
