College loans can be pesky, mysterious, ruthless and vengeful, but what if you have not kept up with them until recently or even at all? College loans are one of the main reasons students can attend college, but once you finish, depending on how you handled your debt, you might be working for your bank as opposed to working for yoursel

EMU has hotspots to escape winter cold

It took a bit of walking, talking, perusing and quite a few interviews to bring you Eastern Michigan University’s best and most loved cold-weather hangout spots. But here you have it, a chance, and hopefully, some encouragement to get to know EMU’s campus and Ypsilanti area at large, in spite of the cold months to come. The list could go on, but here’s a start.

VISION collects presents for kids

This Christmas season, students are being given the chance to help brighten a child’s holiday by donating Christmas presents to children in the Washtenaw County area. Eastern Michigan University’s VISION office is working with the Salvation Army to collect donated gifts from students.

Problems arise in French study abroad trip

Even though I am in France, it does not mean I did not celebrate Thanksgiving. My American roommate prepared a Thanksgiving feast for her French friends and me in order to introduce them to a great American tradition.

'Tangled' adds modern twist to Rapunzel

This classic story reimagined doesn’t stray too far from some tellings of Rapunzel. Disney tones down the darker side of the story (and adds in that she’s a princess for some extra pizzazz), but the concept remains the same.

Muggle fans of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series flocked to theaters to see the first half of the film adaptation of the final book in the seven-part saga, bringing in a total of $61 million on opening night.

Islam tradition shared with campus

On Nov. 20 in the Student Center Ballroom, members of the Islamic community shared and celebrated the Islamic spirit during Eid Al-Adha with those on campus. There were hundreds of people at the event and both ballroom A and B were filled with people.

Regina Spektor to be seen in new light

There will be a free showing of “Regina Spektor: Live in London” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Student Center Auditorium. The Blu-ray will feature 18 of Spektor’s performances, from London’s Hammersmith Apollo Theater. It will be the first time fans can see Spektor perform at an uncomfortably close distance, as well as see footage of intimate details like sound check and peeks inside backstage.

LGBT-led tournament to raise money for HIV

As the smoke cleared and the dust settled, the true winners of the tournament emerged. “Team Rocawear,” consisting of Information Technologies major Alphonso Mann, 22, and Computer Sciences/IT major, Deontae Mack, 21, the controllers of Link and Meta Knight in the Wii video game “Super Smash Bros. Brawl,” would be crowned winners of the LGBT Resource Center’s “Smash for Cash.”

Thanksgiving Eve new night for rollicking

Thanksgiving Eve has become the busiest bar night of the year, even busier than New Years Eve or Christmas Eve. Some college students decide to go home early and spend quality time with family before the big day, others go home to go bar-hopping with old high school friends who are in town. Then there are those of us college students who stay near campus until the last possible second and decide to party hard at local college bars.

iPhone app to educate EMU on campus events

In an attempt to keep pace with technology and students’ needs, Eastern Michigan University has recently completed the launch of its first mobile device application for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The EMU app, which is now available for free through Apple App Store, will be an informative and helpful tool for the EMU students, staff and faculty.

'Amazing Race' draws viewers with challenges

“The Amazing Race” premiered Sept. 25 to millions of viewers eager to see how drama unfolds for a diverse roster of characters. Eleven teams must race around the world completing challenges and navigating across cultures, with the slowest teams getting eliminated. The last team remaining gets $1 million.

Student leader involved in diversity

It contains the Executive board, the Student Senate as well as several specialized committees. Student body President Antonio Cosme works alongside Vice-President Muayad Mahmoud and the other representatives of the student government to put forth a dedicated approach to serving the best interest of Eastern Michigan’s student body.
