Gregory Champion, president of the Eastern Michigan University pro-life group Students for Life, said when the group applied for funding in February they didn’t expect to be fully funded, but each student at EMU has mandatory dues.

Students discuss women’s role in hip-hop at event

Intending to bring forward the issue of the role of women in hip-hop, My Mic Sounds Nice was held in Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center on Wednesday. The event was coordinated by Heather Nicholson and Nicole Carter, two feminist self-described “hip-hop heads,” both part of EMU’s education studies doctoral program.

LGBT center hosts annual Pride Prom

“In a high school setting, there’s not a lot of welcome and comfort for somebody to take their same-sex like boyfriend or girlfriend to a high school prom,” Mary Larkin, program coordinator of Eastern Michigan University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center, said.

EMU wrestlers out of tourney

The Eastern Michigan University men’s wrestling season finished when redshirt juniors Phillip Joseph and Nick Whitenburg competed at the NCAA Championship Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, which took place Thursday through Saturday.


	EMU volleyball coach Kim Berrington thought the team’s performance was “solid,” and was pleased with the things they worked on.

EMU volleyball opens season

The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team opened its spring season Saturday by hosting and participating in the EMU Spring Tournament. The matches were scored, however, the wins and losses did not count toward regular season standings.

A lawsuit was brought against Eastern Michigan University this week by the Christian legal ministry Alliance Defending Freedom on behalf of campus pro-life group Students for Life. A press release from ADF said its attorneys filed a federal lawsuit in Detroit on Tuesday.

Music will be in the air this Friday, and this time it’s an Eastern Michigan University faculty member creating the melody. Professor Joel Schoenhals, an EMU music professor of piano, will be performing part two of Beethoven’s Sonata No. 32 at Pease Auditorium.

Group will light candles for victims of suicide

By the time a person reaches college age, there is a good chance their lives have already been affected by a mental health issue. A 2004 study by the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Abbott Laboratories found that one in three students reported having long periods of depression and one in four reported having suicidal thoughts.

Late Wednesday, the Eastern Michigan University athletic department announced the departure of Athletic Director Dr. Derrick Gragg to become the AD at Tulsa University in Tulsa, Okla.

Eastern Michigan University students launched a Latin dance fundraiser Saturday at Big Bob’s Lakehouse to aid the Salvadoran Humanitarian Aid, Research and Education Foundation.
