Soul Food at The Commons

Members of the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Black Faculty and Staff Association hosted “Soul Food Night” on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at The Commons from 5-9 p.m. The event was held to raise awareness of black history and share delicious food for a $9 admission cost.

The Eastern Michigan University organization You Beautiful Black Woman (YBBW) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. held a couple’s event “Adorn You” Feb. 11 in the Student Center where four couples competed to test their couples’ knowledge.

Students React to Nathan Phillips Incident

On Jan. 19 and 20, video clips emerged showing a Native American man, identified as Nathan Phillips, and a group of high schools boys wearing “Make America Great Again” gear involved in a confrontation in Washington D.C. The story was trending on Twitter and quickly went viral, receiving coverage from news outlets all over the country. 


Commemorative March for Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations at EMU

 At the Martin Luther King Jr. statue located between Boone Hall and Welch Hall, dozens gathered for the annual commemorative march to honor King’s legacy and to reflect the historic 1965 Selma-Montgomery March done by thousands of non-violent demonstrators.

Art Show Kicks Off Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at Eastern Michigan University

Students and faculty members gathered to celebrate the beginning of Eastern Michigan University’s celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his accomplishments. Coming off the end of a march, the excited students and faculty who participated were greeted with food and a showcase of artwork from members of the community and students of EMU, with the latter hoping to receive one of three $500 scholarships.

Spotted earlier today by a reporter for the Eastern Echo, one of the walls in the Free Speech Space reads “it’s okay to be white.” The message comes a week after a statement condemning anti-semitism was tampered with on the same wall.

Eastern Michigan University holds is sixth annual Giving True Day as a way to support and give thanks to different aspects of the university. One can make a gift to athletics, an EMU college of the donor’s choice, WEMU, special initiatives like the Undergraduate Symposium, and much more.

Dr. Robert Turner hosted a discussion and book signing at Eastern Michigan University Wednesday, Nov. 28, for his newly released book, “Not For Long,” which showcases the shared experiences and obstacles NFL players face while playing and when their athletic career ends.

Josh Landon Visits EMU

News Anchor Josh Landon visited Sponberg Auditorium on Wednesday to give advice to future journalists. Landon, an anchor for Fox 2 News, talked about his journey to his current job and answered questions from student journalists and broadcasters. Landon, an EMU graduate, shared his enthusiasm and knowledge with students.
