Ypsi Christian group performs at Eastern
This past Monday at Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center, the student body was treated to a passionate and enthusiastic performance from the Christian group Kingdom Come.
Friendship Walk aids Best Buddies program
The Best Buddies program raised over $11,000 Sunday for its Eastern Michigan University and University of Michigan chapters through the Best Buddies Michigan Friendship Walk.
Suicide prevention group hosts event
University Park on Eastern Michigan University’s campus was set aglow Monday night by rows and rows of decorated mason jars with small candles placed inside as part of The Light That Unites, an event put on by the Stigma and Fear End Now campaign. The colorful jars, each one decorated by an EMU student, was intended as a tangible reminder of a life that was lost.

Students discuss women’s role in hip-hop at event
Intending to bring forward the issue of the role of women in hip-hop, My Mic Sounds Nice was held in Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center on Wednesday. The event was coordinated by Heather Nicholson and Nicole Carter, two feminist self-described “hip-hop heads,” both part of EMU’s education studies doctoral program.
LGBT center hosts annual Pride Prom
“In a high school setting, there’s not a lot of welcome and comfort for somebody to take their same-sex like boyfriend or girlfriend to a high school prom,” Mary Larkin, program coordinator of Eastern Michigan University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center, said.
Exhibit shows women’s art
Eastern Michigan University’s celebration of Women’s History Month continues, and the next empowering event, “The Looking Glass Self Art Exhibition,” is a gallery of self-portraits crafted by women to define self-identity, and evaluate the true nature of perspective.
EMU professors will play weekend recitals
Music will be in the air this Friday, and this time it’s an Eastern Michigan University faculty member creating the melody. Professor Joel Schoenhals, an EMU music professor of piano, will be performing part two of Beethoven’s Sonata No. 32 at Pease Auditorium.
CloseUP to honor its history in ‘Everything in Between’
Eastern Michigan University’s CloseUP Theatre Troupe will host Everything in Between, a reunion performance. The event will celebrate 15 years of giving students the opportunity to be able to express themselves through the arts, and will take place Sunday in the Student Center Auditorium from 4-5:30 p.m.
Group will light candles for victims of suicide
By the time a person reaches college age, there is a good chance their lives have already been affected by a mental health issue. A 2004 study by the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Abbott Laboratories found that one in three students reported having long periods of depression and one in four reported having suicidal thoughts.
