Opinion: The top three NFL rookies to watch out for in the 2022-23 season

It’s about that time again, you're sitting on the couch watching TV when suddenly an commercial break advertises the start of the NFL pre-season, triggering you to question where your summer has gone with the thought, “No way football is ALREADY starting again.” We’ve all been there. So, with the NFL pre-season getting underway in about 2 weeks, let’s look at the top 3 rookies that we could see have big debut seasons: Chris Olave, Aidan Hutchinson, and Jordan Davis.


Track & Field

Two former EMU track & field standouts compete in World Athletics Championships

Former EMU track and field athletes  Donald Scott and Lahsene Bouchikhi are set to compete in the 2022 World Athletics Championship. Scott is a 2015 EMU graduate and former eight-time Mid-American Conference Champion. Bouchikhi earned First Team All-MAC honors his junior year and placed fifth in the Spartan Invitational with a time of 25:11.2 in the 8,000 meter race.

This year’s draft class is a big question mark. With many people believing that this class isn’t much to be excited about, there are also people speculating that this draft class could very well be a special one. Sports writer Blake McQueary provides insight on his top three "under the radar" transactions of NBA draft night.

Steve Schram named new head coach of EMU women's tennis program

Eastern Michigan University Vice President and Director of Athletics announced that Steve Schram will be the new head coach of the women’s tennis program. Schram has an overall 120-49 career record in nine seasons as a women’s tennis head coach. Schram has led three other college tennis programs, recording an all-time winning percentage of .710.

Opinion: The top five NFL free agency moves of 2022

The past five months have been action-packed for the NFL. In January we got to witness a crazy postseason, where most games were decided by just a field goal in the final seconds. February saw the Los Angeles Rams defeat the Cincinnati Bengals to win the Super Bowl in their own house of Los Angeles. March featured headlines of Tom Brady reversing his shocking decision to retire from the NFL and ultimately play a 23rd season in Tampa Bay.

This past season for the Detroit Pistons was a season filled with hope. With the organization in the process of a rebuild, and rookie point guard, Cade Cunningham, leading the way for the Pistons, there wasn’t much to expect from the deteriorating franchise that is in the process of a rebuild. The only expectation to be met for the Pistons? Be better than the previous year, and that, they did.

EMU track and field earn podium finishes at MAC Outdoor Championships

The Eastern Michigan University track and field team competed at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships from Thursday, May 12, through Saturday, May 14 at Kanley Track & Field Complex in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Eagles produced wins in five events on the final day, cementing the men’s team second place finish with 155 points and the women’s third place finish with 108 points. Kent State took home the men’s title as they produced 196 points in the event. Akron took home the women’s title, tallying 124 points.

EMU track and field conclude regular season at University of Michigan's Len Paddock Open

The Eastern Michigan University track and field team finished the 2022 regular season at the University of Michigan’s Len Paddock Open on Saturday, May 7. The Eagles won the men’s and women’s triple jump, as senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed produced a 14.85m jump, and fellow classmate Alisha St. Louis produced a jump of 11.79m. Sophomore Ousman Kamara tallied another victory for the Eagles in the high jump with a 2.00m.
