EMU Tennis secures MAC tournament spot with dominant 6-1 victory at BGSU

Freshman Daniella Shved moves to a team-best record of 11-2 in singles play against Ball State as the Eagles fell short to the Cardinals, 5-2. The Eagles will close out their 2023 season on Sunday against Buffalo.
Zhang and Shved won the No.2 spot in the loss against NIU. The Eagles saw victories in the singles and doubles but had trouble winning the last point as they now sit at 2-4 in the MAC.

Eastern Michigan University Vice President and Director of Athletics announced that Steve Schram will be the new head coach of the women’s tennis program. Schram has an overall 120-49 career record in nine seasons as a women’s tennis head coach. Schram has led three other college tennis programs, recording an all-time winning percentage of .710.

A hard-fought battle from both teams concluded in a 3-4 win for the Broncos over the Eagles. Hundreds of college athletic programs have stopped short due to COVID-19. EMU has canceled all events and team practices for the spring season. That includes women’s tennis, that finished with a 10-7 record. Conference matches were set to start on March 22, however EMU followed suit with NCAA guidelines in not having those matches be played.

The Eagles were selected to finish in eighth place according to the MAC preseason poll. Buffalo, who totaled 77 points, was selected to win the conference.
