Eastern Michigan University's ECA program donates $200,000 toward Strong Hall renovations

Amid the humidity in the Strong Hall Atrium, it was all smiles and high fives. On Wednesday, April 19, the partnership between Eastern Michigan University and local school districts grew even stronger when the Washtenaw Educational Options Consortium (WEOC) and its Early College Alliance program donated $200,000 toward the renovation of Strong Hall, a salient STEM-focused facility at the university.

Eastern Michigan University student fatally shot at Ohio party

Jayquon Tillman, an 18-year old Eastern Michigan University student was fatally shot on Saturday, May 6 at a party four miles away from Kent State University in Portage County, Ohio. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the Portage County sheriff’s said deputies were dispatched to a large party at a multi-family residence on state Route 43 in Franklin Township around 11:30 p.m.

Eastern Michigan University to host 37th Undergraduate Symposium Eastern Michigan University will hold the 37th Undergraduate Symposium at the Student Center, March 31. Hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences, the event will showcase creative student research and projects while celebrating the prodigious academic fortunes of the EMU student body. Participation for the symposium is welcome to all undergraduate students from all colleges at the university, provided that students have been nominated by a faculty mentor and recommended by their respective department or school. The program breaks down into segments that will highlight oral presentations and poster presentations, followed by a design expo and celebratory luncheon exclusively for student presenters and faculty. The keynote speaker will be “USA Today” business reporter and Eastern Michigan University alumnus and former Eastern Echo staffer Nathan Bomey.

Meet the 2017-18 Student Government candidates

Eastern Michigan University students can vote for the 2017-18 Student Government student body president and vice president, Wednesday, March 29 and Thursday, March 30. “When the student body president or vice president tells the administration or Board of Regents that something needs to happen, and a feasible plan is presented, then something will indeed happen,” said Josh Starr, current student body vice president. “Eastern's Administration is incredibly involved with their student leaders, and being one of those leaders is an honor,” he said.

EMU student wins third annual College Food Stars cooking competition Sarah Lewis Kourtni Talley, student at Eastern Michigan University student, won the grand prize of $1000 at Holiday Inn near the University of Michigan’s third annual College Food Stars cooking competition on Sunday, Nov. 13 for her Avocado Delight dish.
