Committees with Student Senate volunteers oversee and handle Student Government’s affairs. These committees and members of the executive board deal with the daily functions of Student Government as a whole. The following committees meet biweekly: Internal affairs Public affairs Business and finance Academic and student affairs Internal affairs The Internal Affairs committee discussed resolution number 101-007, which discusses confidentiality to protect Senators from discussing sensitive issues in an open forum.

EMU fans set a couch on fire celebrating EMU's victory

Fans celebrating the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball victory over the University of Michigan near the intersection of Emmet Street and College Place, outside a house often referred to by students as the ROTC house, dragged a couch across its yard and set the couch on fire early Wednesday morning.

Faculty/Staff Lunch & Learn: Low-Sodium Cooking to Prevent Hypertension The office of Nutrition Services will be hosting the Lunch and Learn to demonstrate healthy recipes that are low in sodium. The event will be from 12 to 2 p.m., Dec. 11, in room 5 of Roosevelt Hall. EMU transitions to a tobacco-free campus

Eastern Michigan University recently adopted a tobacco-free campus policy. The Board of Regents voted to pass this policy Friday afternoon at their winter regular meeting. The tobacco-free policy is to move toward supporting a healthier learning, living and work environment for the EMU campus.

Research grants at EMU result in U.S patents for three professors

The Office of Research Development announced, in a statement, that Cory Emal, an associate chemistry professor, along with colleagues from the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland, has received US patent 8,759,327. And Vijay Mannari, a polymers professor and Subhas Ghosh, a professor in textiles have received US patent 8,764,851.

Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents Francine Parker and Floyd Clack finished their last Board of Regents meeting Friday afternoon.

Digital Inclusion opens up Pop Up store in Ypsi

Digital Inclusion opened a Pop Up store, Nov. 24, in downtown Ypsilanti at 10 North Washington Street, slated to be open until Dec. 17. A social enterprise of Eastern Michigan University’s, The Business Side of Youth, Digital Inclusion, refurbishes, repairs and sells donated computers at a considerably lower price than brand-new.

Monday, Dec. 1 Police received an anonymous third party report about the possibility of unwanted and inappropriate touching.

DPS to get body cameras

Eastern Michigan University’s, Department of Public Safety will be investing $17,000 in body cameras for police officers. The cameras will be used for officers "on foot patrol, bicycle patrol and other activity not occurring near or around a police vehicle.”

EMU MESA Presents a Panel Discussion on Race: Making the Minority the Majority Middle Eastern Student Association, The Native American Student Organization, BLACK, and Latino Student Association will come together for a discussion on dealing with racial stereotypes in our community from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in room 350 of the Student Center. The discussion is open to all students. The event is LBC approved.
